on WBTV, Channel 3.
Early this year, in a
period of 28 days, Lincoln
ton obstetrician Dr. John
Chang delivered five sets of
twins. Since statistics show
that twins are born in about
one out of 90 deliveries, Dr.
Chang would have had to
deliver some 450 babies in a
year’s time to be statistic
ally correct. Actually, only
449 babies were born in all
of Lincoln County during
year.
Moira investigates the
phenomenon of twin births
in the quiet little town, and
discovers many people
think it's in the water, and
others think Dr. Chang is
responsible because he de
livered all five sets. Un
fortunately, the doctor’s
new patients are a little
concerned that twin preg
nancies may be catching.
Moira reports that none
of the babies were bom
prematurely, all ten went
home the same day their
mothers did, and the
parents are very happy
about their whole new way
of life.

White s Mother Groomed
Him For A Career In Music
By Loretta Manago
Post Starr Writer
. Barry White’s latest sin
gle is titled “Change.” Of
that he knows more about
than what the lyrics reveal.
At a critical point in his
youth White decided to
shift the destructive course
his life was headed towards
and focus on a positive
direction.
That was the day when
White, then 16, traded his
gang membership for a
lifetime commitment to
music after seeing a friend
die in his arms.
Fortunately for White his
mother had groomed him
early for a career in music.
At four White’s mother was
teaching him how to har
monize and at six White
was learning how to play
the piano she had bought
for him. Two years later
White was directing the
choir at the neighborhood
church.
White’s mother’s heavy
indoctrination into music
paid off. With music being
his only avenue, White took
his acquired and natural
musical abilities and left
East Los Angeles for Holly
wood.
“The 60s found him man
aging Jerry “The Duck"
Lee serving as head of A&R
for Bronco Records and
writing songs, including
Felice Taylor and Viola
Wells’ “I Feel Love Cornin’
On” and Bob and Earl’s
“Harlem Shuffle.” And in
between those jobs and re
cords, he spent a lot of time
starving."
Despite the unstability of
the business and his fluc
tuating musical existence
White remained unrelent
ing and in 1973 a brighter
light began to beam. And it
was like a tiny snowflake
that grew into a tumul
tuous snow storm when hits
like “I’m Gonna Love You
Just A Little More Baby,"
“Honey Please, Can’t You
See,” "Never Never Gonna
Give You Up” and “You’re
The First, The Last, My
Everything” began to ac
cumulate. “Between 1973
and 1978, White racked up
hit after hit with his ver
sion of romance set on a
background of lush, velvet
lined R&P Pop.”
White had come a long
way from the streets of Los
Angeles but there were still
other things he wanted to
do Forming Unlimited
Gold Records label was one
such venture. Another one
is recording an album with
his wife Glodean, a former
Love Unlimited lead
singer.
And his latest album is
reflective of a man who
knows change in his work
and private life According
to White, “Everybody must
change Barry White is no
exception to the rule Our
ears have changed into an
awesome machine The hu
man ear hears new wave,
jazz, rock, hard rock, R&B,
reggae and pop There are
so many types of music
that one cannot afford to
stay in one area too long
The whole world needs to
change to bring about cer
tain consciousness.
