Rent Increases For Apartments Have Not Escalated Rent increases for apart ments have not escalated, instead there is a high per centage, 62 percent in fact, that show minimal in creases or no increases in rent cost. Maybe it is part of the showering of blessing sent from Heaven that includes the lowering of interest rates for those waiting to buy homes. But according to the Charlotte Apartment * Association’s latest survey the low rental increase is probably due to the current vacancy rate. The survey shows 4.2 percent vacancy, making for a highly com petitive rental market. The following informa tion was tabulated from 157 apartment communities listed in the “Apartment Finder” and includes changes since January 1st: Thirty-six percent made no change in rents; 26 percent went up $10 or less; 16 percent went up $15; 10 percent went up $20; and 10 percent went up $25 or more. + + + + + The National Council of Negro Women recently held the installation of of ficers at McDonald’s Cafe teria. A different twist from the ordinary Vietnam write-up during the war and civilian life because it features two black men contrasting their existence. “Brothers” began as a part of a Vietnam Veter an's Oral History project. Clark Smith, a former pro fessor at U.C. Berkeley aided the book “Brothers'’ to come into existence. Featured in the book are Stanley Goff and Robert Sanders. Goff won the Dis tinguished Service Cross for bravery under fire. Sanders earned the Air Medal for more than 25 combat assaults. In simple unvarnished direct and forecul language, both of these men tell what it was like to fight when they did not understand what they were fighting for and why in the midst of fear and loneliness most men felt an overwhelming feeling of brotherhood. + 4- 4- 4- 4 The Charlotte Parks and Recreation Department is now forming an adult men and Women’s Basketball League.
