JUST OUT OF REACH... There were about five or six buses of J.C. Smith _ followers who traveled to Durham last Saturday for the all important CIAA match-up with North Carol ina Central University. Even though they yelled some, cursed some and prayed some, it wasn’t enough to pull the Bulls through. Notwithstanding, the gallant efforts of a determined defense-mind ed team, the CIAA South ern Division championship just escaped the Bulls’ grasp. The most worthy players reached for the moon and fell upon an ever shining star. The star of respectability and love of their many followers. Carol Westbrook, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Her ron, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Scott were just a few of the people found in Durham last Saturday afternoon. YOURS, MINE AND OURS...The Pizazz Band formed a picture-sound gallery last Friday night that was boundless in its intense entertainment value. The six piece group including a female vocalist made such an impression on the large audience, that Leroy “Product" Watkins will probably have them back real soon. Another very successful venture was the male revue-Physical and Unique. This recent show was for the ladies, and boy did they have a good time. Every Sunday evening from 6-10 p.m., Yours, Mine and Ours features the only jazz performed on the Westside. The Michael Porter Trio plays the kind of music that never gets old. Friday and Saturday nights, Dequilla and the Midnight Madness Band the group who turned out the Bobbi Humphrey show at Johnson C. Smith-will be featured in late-nite shows, 1-3 a.m. They will also be appear ing Sunday night from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. KINGS AND QUEENS... If you want to enjoy the atmosphere in what is billed as Charlotte’s finest adult night club, you had better be at the d oor when it opens. For the last few weeks people have been turned away—especially Friday and Saturday nights. i uesaay, November 2, Phil Berry was triumph ant in his bid for a seat in the State House.
