Prophets Column -‘‘When A Harlot Went To Heaven • - x ; And A Preacher Went To Hell” t)y J . >1. l ittle In salvation, the least expected ones get saved. Why is this so? Before the foundation of the world God chose every individual who would ever be saved and predestinated the means to that sinner’s salvation. Our subject at this time is; “When a Harlot Went to Heaven and a Preacher Went To Hell.” And He (Christ) must needs go through Samaria," (Jn. 4:4). Why must Christ go through Samaria? An elect sthner was there. Wher ever an elect sinner is Christ will go there and bring that elect sinner under conviction and unto Himself. The Lord was sit tlhg there at Jacob’s well and this Samaritan woman came to draw water, (vs. 7), “Jesus saith unto her, uive me to drink. That was the effectual call to her heart. Vs. MO, “Then saith t))e woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, asketh drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus an swered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldn’t have asked of him, and He would have given thee living water.’’ Here was a Gentile woman face to race with the Son of God, the only One who could save her poor lost soul, but she didn’t know who He was. And so it is today, when Christ is preached, you don’t know Him. The Lord went on to tell that woman that if she knew the gift of God and whom it was speaking to her she would have asked of Him and He would have given her living water. i ■ . J.M. Little Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water spring ing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw,” (Vs. 14-16). The Lord was talk ing to this harlot woman about something she knew nothing about. The Way of Righteousness is foreign to a sinner’s heart, whether he is in the church or out of the church. But note that ^ she didn’t call Christ crazy -for speaking to her about “living water.” The multi tude of our church mem bers would have called Christ crazy by the reli gious crowd. You don’t un derstand it, why? Your heart has never been opened Dy tne Holy Spirit to reveal your totally de praved condition to you. Yes, the Lord told this woman about water she could drink and never thirst again. And she want ed this water. “Jesus saith unto her, “Go, call thy husband, and come hi ther." What was her re sponse? “The woman an swered and said, I have no husband, Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband; For thou has had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband; in that saidst thou truly,” (Vs. 17-18). Eight here is where the Lord convicted her for her sin. There can be no salvation in Christ apart from conviction of sin. Christ only saves sinners, and if you never see your self as the sinner, you will never hunger after Christ. Pfayers for past, present and future • blessings were heard as members of Macedonia Baptist Church embarked upon their ground breaking ceremony recently. Rev. Lester J. Wallace, front rpw right, is pastor of the church. He along with Joe Ford, left, chairman of the Building Fund Committee and "Mother Ford,” one of the oldest members of the church were united in beginning a new era for the church. (Photo: Jim Black Photographers) Conviction of sin that does not lead to Christ is not Holy Spirit conviction. How many of you here have had some convictions because you got caught? Holy Spirit conviction is not being fear ful that you get caught, but fearful of a thrice Holy God because you see that you have sinned against Him. As David cried out, against Thee and Thee only have I sinned. Do you see that you are in rebellion against God? Are you mourning over your sinful state? You will before you get to Christ. Aiua wuniuu was a harlot, she had had five husbands, or what we would call common-law husbands, today. She was not legally married to any of these men. She had just been living in adultery with them. How many husbands have you have? You are going to part with them before you are ever saved, if you are ever to be saved. Some of you are sleeping with other men’s wives. And you want to criticize someone else for their “tom cattine” around. There are two things that wjll cause a man to turn the truth down; the love of " money, or the love of lust. It may take other details, but when you boil it down, it’ll fall under those two things. I’ve watched the lives of tho&e here who have turned the truth down, it was the love of money, or the love of some lust that made you turn the truth down. When I started putting my testimony in print in 1972, 12 years ago, there were many I could name who had some good impressions. You em braced the truth for a while. Some of you I could talk to about what it would mean to come to know Christ, you were seemingly moved. Some of you told me you knew you were sinners. But the love of lust trapped you. There are two things you can get caught in that few, a very few, are ever delivered from: the sin of adultery as this Samaritan woman was living in, and the sin of loving money. I know men and women today who are caught up in the sin of adultery. I believe there is no hope for you. You have been going with that woman for years. You may never have an impression from the Lord that you are wrong. Playing around with other men’s wives seems to be the fashionable thing to do; God is angry with the wicked everyday. And He is angry with you. . .Paid for by Prophet, lac. All classified advertising Is payable in advance. A minimum charge of $3.55 is made for insertions of 25 words or less.
