Henry Brown Jr. .U.S. Army Recruiter New Army Recruiter Here Staff Sergeant Henry Brown Jr. has-joined the staff of Army recruiters at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, 623 East Trade Street, Charlotte. A soldier since 1976, -Brown’s seven years of service have been with the 82nd Airborne Division Band at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was a trumpet player and operations sergeant with the 23-piece jazz band and toured in performances along the East Coast, in cluding Charlotte. The only “airborne” band in the Army, Brown graduat ed from the jump school and proudly wears his pa rachutist badge. His change in career is his own. He voluntarily requested recruiting duty and specifically asked for assignment to Charlotte. As a recruiter, Brown’s area includes Olympic and West Charlotte High Schools. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown Sr. of G. St., Hampton, Va., he is mar ried to the former Linda G. Bratcher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Bratcher ' of Raeford, N.C. They and their two-year-old son reside in Charlotte. For 1983 Chastity Christian Is Day Care ^Queen” w By Lori Grier ™ Post Staff Writer ..Playmates Day Care held its annual Spring Pa geant and Graduation Ce remony last week at the Amay James Recreation Center. Little Miss Chast ity Christiaa was crowned the Queen for 1983-84. Troy Grier won second place, and Tameka Boone won third place. Chastity, S, is the daugh ter of Norma Christian and ,the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Willis of 1943 West Boulevard. She at tends St. John Primitive Baptist Church and will attend school at Beverly Woods Elementary this fall. Chastity’s teachers at Playmates believe she has mastered her pre-school learning skills and should have no problem achieving Kg Brother ^■Sister Classes Tour Scheduled “I’m going to be a big brother,” the little boy an nounced proudly, showing off his surgical hat and booties. The sibling pro gram is preparing children for the roles they’ll soon assume, making the transi tion from “only child” to brother or sister, one that is not only easier, but fun. The children come to Presbyterian with their pa rents, where they meet their tour guides and teach ers. They take a tour of Labor k Delivery, see the homestyle delivery room, peer through nursery win dows at the new babies, and see a room like the one Mom will have after the baby’s born. Meanwhile, Mom and Dad are learn ing about sibling rivalry and ways to ease it. ty the time the children rejoin their parents, they’ve donned surgical hats and booties. After refreshments and a period far questions and answers, it’s time to practice hold ing and diapering a baby. They get dolls to practice on, and before long, they're Official Big Brothers and Sisters. The sibling program is held from S-7:S0 pm every first and third Wed nesdays. Chastity Christian .Playmates graduate in school. During the ceremony the Little Playmates sang songs and danced on stage to complete the delight of parents, relatives, and friends. The pre-schoolers who will enroll in school this fall also marched in light blue caps and gowns. They were Lashonda Adams, Wanda McGill, Chastity Christian, Sara sha Massey, Tresean King, Martquell Johnson and Troy Grier. Most of the graduates will remain at Playmates through the summer for the Summer Fun Program where swimming lessons, skating, gymnastics, dance, mini golf and other fun activities will be of fered. Registration for the sum mer is now in progress. Playmates is owned and operated by Sarah and Obie Massey who care for children ages six weeks to 12 years old. The facility is located off West Boulevard near Barringer School. Georgia Roes Completes Requirements Georgia Mae Rosa, hav ing completed degree re quirements in the Held of Health, Physical Educa tion k Recreation, was one of 80 young women to re ceive the baccalaureate de gree from Bennett College, a liberal arts college for women in Greensboro, N.C, She is the daughter of Ms. Mildred Martin of 1821 Cliffwood Place in Char lotte, N.C. Scholarship A recent benefit car wash conducted at all Auto Bell Car Washes contributed $2,000 to the Community School of the Arts’ scholar ship, reduced fee program. The money raised by Auto Bell will help match a $4,000 N.C.
