She will repre sent the school at various functions but still with all the spotlights upon her, she doesn’t feel that the honor allows her any special privileges as a numan being "I don’t feel more spe cial than anyone else. I am honored to have been chosen Miss 49er and I will give my own opinions if 1 am asked. I am proud to be black and I will represent the university well,” Ms. Neal commented. A freshman, Ms. Neal competed in costume, swim suit wear, talent, evening wear and question sessions. She composed her music to her flute selection Carolina Autumn and de signed and tailored her swim suit, evening and talent fashions She is now studying hard to acquire her accounting degree and pass the CPA exam. “I want accounting be my vocation and my music to be my hobby.” Ms. Neal was raised In Charlotte attending Myers Park High School. She was also inducted into the Honor Society for Musi cians,- a rrierhBer' ~oT the' Latin Club, orchestra. Spi rit Club, vice president of finance of the Junior Achievement program sponsored by IBM, and a member of Medical Ex plorers. Her favorite entertainer is “Mr. T”. She enjoys charity work, helping churches and schools and finds this an important role as Miss 49er. She attends Friend ship Baptist Church and her hobbies include design ing clothes, drawing, composing music, playing her flute (she can also play nine other instruments) and she loves politics. “My favorite subject in school is American Poli tics. I've always been fascinated with it,” she explained The daughter of Ernest and Nina Neal, our beauty has one brother, Duane, and one sister, Shan. "My mother Is the person I most admire. She has helped me through a lot of hard times. Several churches spon sored canned food drives including East Stonewall AME Zion, where Rev. Bernard Sullivan pastors. While members at Gathse mane Baptist Church dis tributed gifts to the elderly at Wessels Nursing Homes, Our Lady of Consolation members were also con cerned enough to assist many to have happier holi days.
