i-*me BkKVi tMCL' U._ “MISS BLUE REVUE” PAGEANT *~Rei'eals beautiful contestants Candace LaVita Sarter Crowned “Miss Blue Revue” When the fanfare of the Zeta Phi Beta’s annual “Miss Blue Revue” contest * had subsided, Candace LaVita Sorter had been crowned “Miss Blue Re vue” 1984. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Odell Sarter, Ms. Sarter is a sophomore at North Necklenburg High School where she is very active. t She serves as Sophomore Class president, Home room class president and a member of the Student Council Executive Board. In other areas at school, Ms. Sarter is junior varsi ty cheerleader, a member of the Civinettes, the FHA and the Booster Club. Scholastically, Ms. Sar ter is a participant in the Academically Gifted pro gram, and enrolled in the Candace Sarter .“Miss Blue Revue” advanced students classes. She has received several awards including the 1963 National Leadership Merit Award and a 1984 nominee tor the Leadership Award. When not in school Ms. Sarter ban be found work ing in her church, Uni yersity Park Baptist Church, as an usher or in . the Sunday School class or cultivating one of her many talents-sewing, public speaking or playing both the clarinet and piano. The hard work that she has placed in all facets of her life are geared to wards- her goal of'grad uating in Old top, 10 .per cent of her class, attend ing Duke University and becoming a doctor. ■;* Other ladies 'who placed as finalists of the con test included: Rosalind Henderson. The daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Warded Henderson, she is a junior at West Charlotte. She was the first runner-up. The se cond runners-up were Adri ane Dean and Stephanie Clay. Ms. Dean is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pledge Dean. She is a student at _Coulwood Junior High School. ' The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clay, Ms. Clay is a student at J. T. Williams High School. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Nix, the bride graduated from Harding high school and is a soph omore at N.C. Central University. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ross. He graduated from Olympic high school and is a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. CVC Sponsors Memorial Day Service The Mecklenburg County 1 Veterans Council will spon sor a Memorial Day ser vice on Sunday, May 27. The service will be at Evergreen Cemetery on Central Ave. at the Ve terans Rest, at 1:30 p.m. The speaker will be Ken McDonald, Director of VA Regional Office in Win ston-Salem. A Color Guard will be present and at the closing of the service, all veteran organizations will present wreaths in me mory of all veterans who died in the service of our ( country in all wars. £Uck Caucus Planned rr .7' P lag The Cumberland County Black Leadership Cau- _ cut Banquet will be held May », 8 p.m. at H.
