Citi zen Hearings on solutions to toxic waste problems will be held on Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at the YWCA at 418 East Trade Street in downtown Char lotte. The Citizen Hearing will solicit public response to the North Carolina Toxics Agenda - a four-point pro gram developed by the sponsoring organizations. CPCC Receives $32,589 Grant Central Piedmont Com munity College has re ceived a $32,589 grant to expand the offerings of its Small Business Center. The money will be used primarily to develop and i offer new classes, work- , shops and seminars for small business in this area, according to Dr. Lois Dixon, head oftheBusiness Administration Depart ment at CPCC. \ “So many people have wonderful business yieas and are excellent in /their field of interest,” Dr. Dixon said. “But they lack the management and record- ! keeping know-how to make their ventures suc cessful. "Lack of management f skills is the primary reason that businesses fail.” Part of the grant money I will be used to develop a brochure describing the j Center's services, to pur- ! chase a microcomputer to ; increase the operating ; efficiency of the Center, ^md to add two temporary { part-time employees at the ' Center. The Center was estab lished to provide training, counseling and support for those who want to start a small business or those who already operate a small business. The Small Business Cen ter works in conjunction with the Charlotte Cham ber of Commerce and the Small Business Admini stration, a federal agency that provides financial and educational support to small business.
