Prophet's Column 44Amazing Grace” "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is —the gift of God," (Eph. —aim, uur subjaa— "Amazing Grace.” But how many truly know what grace really means? How many have experi enced the grace of God in your hearts and lives? It is one thing to sing the words of "Amazing Grace,” but it is. far different to know experientfally the grace of God in saving a lost hell deserving sinner. Unless you can tell when you were saved, what you4 were saved from and to, you cannot truly sing "Amaz ing Grace.” If you do not know what it means to see your wretched lost condi tion under Holy Spirit con . viction, (Jn. 16:7-11), then, you know nothing of the grace of God in Chirst. It is ! the grace of God that —awakens a sinner to his lost condition Before Hnly Spirit awakens you, you don’t even know you have a lost condition to be awakened to. That is a truth hidden from nattaraL. hearts no matter how rel-_ igious. When I was in the : religious world, I led ser t—vices einging-thiagreat old * blood hymn. JBut I knew '—t»Uung.of the grace of God —in awakening, me to my-loet * condition. But the Lord in * His great grace, one day threw back the skylight of my soul and lot me see I V was lost. The question may Z arise in the mind of some * one; ‘Must what is grace?” - The old stock definition is; T “grace is the unmerited t—favor of God.11 That is true, ' but I like a stronger defin ’—ition; “graee is -file urittm r ited love of God toward a J hell-deserving sinner.” It ., was the unlimited love of Z God that brought me into *• this world, marked, and * preserved me even before Z theday of effectual calling. * l can go Hack to many - instances when Satan tried I to kill me before the Lord ■J gave me the effectual call. Satan knows every elect » sinner on the face of this earth. He’ll try to kill you to , stop you from coming to t Christ. You won’t find » these truths I’m laying ' down from week to week Z taught in the seminaries, ; Sunday Schools, and the ' pulpits of the religious world. Satan is not going to let those blind guides teach these truths. When the truth is preached, Satan is there to snatch the truth back from your heart He —dnean1! rare hnw inHyfa— you are, Just so you don’t get awakened to your lost condition. Once a sinner is awakened to his lost con dition, Satan will raise every demon of his to fight you, to try to stop you from coming to Christ. And if salvation were not of the Lord, he’d succeed in stop —ping you from getting to Christ. Every sinner who haT been blessed by the Lord at this moment to see and know his lost condition, knows that but for the grace of God, there is no hope. You are seeing that you cannot do anything to save yourself. Blessed are you Great multitudes would love to see the things J. M. Little you are seeing, but these things are hidden from them. I plead with you to turn to the Lord. He, alone, can be your salvation. -Many church members, preachers included, will stand and sing. Amazing Grace on Sunday morning. Now, think with me Just a little; here is an old buzxard who has been feeding on the filthy rotten carcasses of the world all week long.' Just having his fill of the corrupt flesh, ge.flies into church on Sunday morning. takes a seat in the chotr and begins to sing Amazing urace. With every nbte, AUt comes a stench in the nost rils of all.' those close to him. Why? He has been feeding on the rotten filth of the world all week long. How could a sweet odor -proceed from his mouth? It. could not That is you on a religious profession with out ^Christ. All week long you feed on the corruption of the world. Then on Sun day you sit in the choir and try to sing Amazing Grace. What a tragedy! All you can do is croak just like that old buzzard. Now, you may ask; <‘Bro. Little, are you calling mea buzzard?’’ God calls you a buzzard. Since you love the things of this world, which are cor rupt before God, you are just a buzzard feeding on this world. I lived there before God called me out of the world. -Before you can be saved you will see yourself as such a vile and depraved creature and wonder how God could save such a wretch as you. Have you ever seen yourself as the “wretch” Brother Newton,, was talking about in this -old-blood hymn? You-will before God saves you. And when the Lord saves you. .. -,therrymr-eatreay7-t‘ 1 once was lost, but now am found. Was blind but now I see.” Salvation is wholly of the grace of God. It’s a dependable job program that’s based around your class Hours, study time, and sometimes even your major. _ At Johnson C Smith Uni versity, Mrs. Carolyn Smith, the assistant finan cial aid director, explained she often tries to provide students with jobs related to their major. "If I have a student who is a business major, I place him or her in a job within the business department,” Mrs. Smith noted. Of course, the increase in the number of students who F need to participate in the work-study program to pay their tuition prevents some students from such place ment. At JCSU, nearly 600 students were on the work study program for the 1983 84 school year. Mrs ^mith admitted a" student may not make as much money as could be obtained working off cam pus in "a community busi ness. However, the advan tages of the program are usually worth the mini mum wage salary that most colleges and univer sities pay. “Here at Smith, the student meets with the em ployer and they work out a schedule,’’ Mrs. Smith noted. “Some days the student’s supervisor doesn't have much that needs to be done. Then the student is expected to study during that time in the workplace. That’s why the program is referred to as work-study.” —Applying for work-study operates differently from campus to campus. How ever, it is a financial as sistance program; there fore, the student must sub mit an “application of need” before being hired. Sometimes this is handled on the college’s standard financial assistance form provided by the financial. aid department. A student can apply for workstudy at JCSU at the ter. Some schools only allow the student to apply at the beginning of' the school year. Larger schools often allow the students to apply anytime during the school year. *n>e workstudy program can develop young men an<T women into more res pons IT* — The Chevrolet Cavalier is the Mmmbmr V Selling Subcompact Nameplate inAmericaL_____ CairClayton Perry LaPoinie Chevrolet —I 376-3131 I— ibte people. "If they feel they can manage to get it paid on time and keep a portion of their salary, they are free to do so." She was pleased to reveal that most students at JCSU will apply at least a large per centage ofthdrsalaryur their bills each month.
