Am ay James Church Honors Mrs. Robinson —-- By leresa Simmons Post Managing Editor Creola Robinson, a member of A may James Presbyterian Church since 1946, received recognition and a plaque recently from the members of the church. The plaque, which read “For Dedication, Leader ship and Stewardship,” was presented to Mrs. Robinson by Julia Aber nathy and the ladies of Amay James. Presently Mrs. Robinson is the “Mother of the Church." She has taoghr' the Junior Sunday School Class; she was secretary of the church; superintendent of the Sunday School; pres ident and treasurer of the Women of the Church; and treasurer of the Building Fund of the church. Perhaps the aspect of church work that touches _.Mrs. .Robinson’s heart most is the fate of the young people of the church. She began planning outings and trips for the youth of the church. To this day she receives frequent visits and dozens of cards from her “children” on Mother's Day and on her birthday. MrsTCreolaRotmisoti^^^ .“Mother of the Church” She has no living natural children. But there are so many who feel that Mrs. Robinson is the type of lady they would want to call “mama.” Instead of calling Mrs. Kobinson, granny or some thing of that sort, many just refer to her as Miss Creola. You would never think of her as 76 years old. The best thing to do is not to mention “old” around Miss Creola anyway. She’ll simply explain to you that she is not old at all. Indeed Miss Creola is a unique person - one who is loving, kind but most of all honest. “Some people may not agree with me,” Miss Creola began, “but people today are more honest than when I was young. It is important to be open about —what you do Because you may hide something from your neighbor but God sees it.” One may consider Miss Creola a little ahead of her time. Born in Charlotte she readily admits to having a ^whirlwind of a personality - always expressing herself - at least on every occasion except one. 7~”I was a cook',,T Miss" Creola started. “And I have served for President Roosevelt and General Eishenhower. Once Eisenhower said that the only thing a Negro could do with a strip was to dig ditches. Miss Creola is a ladv of spunk She is one extremely opposed to hypocrisy and lying "In some cases parents may drive their children a wav from home by lying about what they do and by being hypocritical " If one smokes and drinks behind closed doors, but talks negatively about others wno smoke and drink in public; tne tirst is just as bad or worse than the latter. Miss Creole explained. —Miss- -Creola -advises youth to be the best. "Any thing you go into give it all you have Go as far as you can go Don't ever feel that r ■ it can't be done better. There is always room for improvement Think of something to make it better and be independent.’' As “Mother of the Church" Miss Creola emphasis the importance of attending church: “It’s important to go to church If the person can give me a message it can become food for thought - some thing to make me think Then when they come down from the pulpit they are just people like you and ■ me."
