Church !>leujs Briefs Silver Mount Schedules ^Old Fashioned Week-End, Camp Meetingr” Revival By Teresa Simmons Post Managing Editor An Old Fashioned Week end Camp Meeting Revival will be held at Silver Mt. Baptist Church June 15-16 and 17,7:30 p.m. each night at the church on Old Pine ville Rd. Rev. Frederick E. Collins, a national evangel ist and world-wide gospel singer from Los Angeles, California, will be the guest evangelist. His sermons will be preached Fri., Sat., Sunday at 11 a.m. and also at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The church will also open its annual picnic on Friday June 15 at 4 p.m. and Sat. June 16 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. A TV, radio and tape recorder will be given away on Sat. at 5 p.m. Gospel music will fill the air all day. The picnic will be held under the cool trees at the Boy Scout Hut, next door to Silver Mt. Church in South Charlotte. A special ladies com mittee will serve hot fish and chicken plates with vegetables and all the trim mings. Cold drinks will also be served along with home made cakes and pies. This will be held Sat. June 16. Music will be rendered each night at the revival by the Silver Mt. (200 Voice) Concert Choir; the Silver Mount Radio Choir; the Young People’s Choir; Hymn Choir Nos. 1 and 2; along with a number of special guest musical groups. Rev. Collins will also be singing nightly. Rev. Collins grew up in Talladega, Ala. where be received his grade and high school education. He attended Miler College, Selma University, Selma, Ala., and the Inter Denominational Theologi cal Center in Atlanta, Ga. He served as co-pastor to Dr. C.L. Franklin of New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, for five years and as assistant chaplain at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit from 1969 to 73. He is presently a mem ber of the national Day Prayer committee which is held at the White House each May 5. The public is cordially invited to attend all services at Silver Mt. Rev. WEEPING WILLOW The Concert Choir of Weeping Willow AMB Zion Church, 306 Billingsly fed. will present its annual concert Sunday June 24 at 6 p.m. The choir is under the direction of Rev. The recent election took place at the 196th General Assembly bf the Presbyterian Church (USA). The convention was held in Phoenix. The Assembly is the largest policy making body of the 3.1 million member denomination. It consists of 692 commissioners. McCullough will be among a group which considers issues concerning out reach, evangelism, and church growth as they relate to the governing bodies of the denomination.
