HISTORICAL ; LITTLE ROCK_^ . .Officials of - the Afro' American Cultural Center Restoration Project an nounced this week that Charlotte’s churches will observe this Sunday, June 24, as “Super Synday” to support the fundraising drive to restore the old historic Little Rock'. AME Zion Church to house the Center., At the weekly reporting session; early this week, Gerson Stroud of the Pro ject’s Church Solicitation Committee said plans are underway for local’minis ters to meet this week, and determine how each one will , participate. Some churches are expected to make outright pledges to the campaign to raise $800, 000 to complete the re toration work. Others are considering special offer ings and pledgee to the campaign, which ends June 30. S rrgjeci leauers say mey are pleased with the re sponse they have received - from local churches, both black and white. They have made their appeal to both religious sectors of the community because, as they put it, the historical significance of the Little Rock AME Zion Church, the f%st Ward neighbor hood where it stands, and contributions of the Afro American Cultural Center cut across racial lines. However, this fund drive is said to be the largest and single most' important money-raising effort ever started within the Mack community of Charlotte Meek] en burg. Contributions and pledg es have ranged from one dollar gifts from small children to 935,0Q0 from some major corporations. Perhaps one of the most signigicant pledges came from the Logan Chapel CME Church in the J. H. Gunn community of north east Mecklenburg County. The!/ church wSs de stroyed by fire in March, but the members still banned together to pledge 9100 while trying to rebuild their sanctuary. Campaign officials say that that church’s pledge was of major significance because it showed that members recognised the Importance of the success of this fund drive. Other churches will have the opportunity to show their support for the fund drive this coming "8uper Swiday.’’ METROPOLITAN * ...Worship services cor£ Rev. M.
