Leon Moore Joins
Fayetteville State
Football Staff
..A former offensive backfield
coach at Texas Southern Uni
versity in Houston, TX, has joined
the football staff at Fayetteville
State University.
Leon Moore, a native of Nash
ville, TN, will serve as offensive
coordinator at Fayetteville State
University.
Moore served three years at Texas
Southern University before coming
to FSU. He also served (1971-78) as
assistant football head coach at Fisk
*■ University, defensive coordinator,
recruiter'for all sports, head base
ball coach and athletic counselor.
He was head baseball coach and
defensive coordinator at Central
State Unibersity, Wilberforce, Ohio,
(1979-81).
Moore is a recipient of the un
dergraduate and graduate degrees
in health recreation, and physical
education from Tennessee State Uni
versity, Nashville.
He has played professionally
with the Los Angeles Rams, Wash
ington Redskins and theBuffaloiBulls.
Moore is affiliated with many
scholastic and professional organ
isations and is a member of the Phi
Beta Sigma Fraternity.
He will also serve as women's
softball coach at FSU.
Volunteer Coach
Volunteers are needed to coach
and officiate youth Flag Football for.
McCrorey YMCA.
Six to eight year olds practice
Mondays and Wednesdays. Nine and
10 year old practice Tuesdays and
Thursdays. All practices are 5:30 to
6:30 p.m All games will be played
on Saturday mornings. Six to eight
year olds play at 9:30 a.m. and nine
to 10 year olds play at 10:30 a.m. All
games are over by li:30 a.m.

working with youth football, here is
a wonderful opportunity to help
provide a beneficial program to
community youth.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Senior Center has planned a wide
variety of classes and programs for
the fail season. Some are offered
through CPCC, the YWCA, the
Community School of the Arts,
Community Health Services, Spirit
Square, and Discovery Place.
Most of the classes are free,
although some require a fee for

3troh s Basketball Challenge Will Feature NBA Basketball Plavero
The Stroh Brewery Company this
week announced plans to once again
sponsor the Stroh’s Basketball
Challenge, a ten-city American tour
which will raise $100,000 for various
local charities.
Featuring 30 of the world’s best
professional basketball players,
Stroh’s second annual national tour
tips off September 4 at the State Fair
Arena in Birmingham, and includes
stops in Jacksonville, New Orleans,
Jackson, Chattanooga, Little Rock,
Raleigh, Charlotte, Louisville and
Nashville. Stroh will donate $10,000
to charities in each of the cities.
Highlighting the games will be the
professional debut of Olympian
Michael Jordan, North Carolina's
two-time College Player of the Year
who recently co-captained the
United States’ gold-medal
performance in Los Angeles.
Defending scoring champion Adrian
Dantley and fellow all-stars Kelly
Tripucka, Alex English and Jeff
Roland head the list of standout
veterans participating in the Stroh’s
Basketball Challenge, a joint
venture with ProServ, the interna
tional sports marketing firm based
in Washington, D.C.

Basketball Challenge will provide
sports fans in these U.S. cities the
opportunity to see the world's best
basketball players and support local

basketball’s best veterans as well as
the year’s most exciting rookie, last
summer with Ralph Sampson and
this year with Olympic standout
Michael Jordan,’’ added Jones.
“The 1984 tour continues our
commitment to athletics, particular
ly basketball, and we’re pleased to
be working on this once again with
ProServ."
The tour marks a collegiate home
coming for, many of the athletes.
Artis Gilmore returns to Jackson
ville, where he displayed his basket
ball talents as a collegian, on
September 5. Sidney Lowe, a
member of N.C. State’s 1983
National Championship team,
returns to Raleigh on September 13,
and will be Joined there and in
Charlotte by forma Tarheel stars
Jordan, James Worthy, Phil Ford,
A1 Wood and Dudley Bradley.
Darrell Griffith and Jerry Eaves,
teammates on Louisville’s 1980
NCAA Championship squad, make a
homecoming on September IS.
