Lodato Poet SUff Writer The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Urban League will host its Second Annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner on Friday, October 5, at the Charlotte Convention Center at 101 S. College Street. The dinner program will begin at 7 p.m„ following a 6:30 reception. Keynote speaker at the dinner will be Julius -Levonne Chambers, formerly of Charlotte and now Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, headquartered in New York. Mr. Chambers had been senior partner of the Charlotte law firm Chambers, Ferguson, Watt Walfac aiMj ■ • Fuller, P.A., before leavingin August to head the LDEF. He has long been in the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement and has iqade numerous contributions toward equal opportunity for blacks and other minorities. The Equal- Opportunity Day Dinner will be the occasion for the presentation of the Urban League’s 1984 Corporate, Corporate Leader ship, Community Service, and Equal Opportunity Awards. n»e Equal Opportunity Award will be announced during the dinner program. According to Birdena Samuel, Project Coordinator for th Charlotte-Mecklenburg Urban League, thi? award goes to an Individual who htfs exhibited outstanding support in the area of civil rights or affirmative action. 1. Applicants are being screened on the basis of 4 minimum typing speed at 40 words per minute, high school diploma, 9th grade reading and math levels.
