Gregory Signs History-Making $100 Million Contract Lnck Gregory, whose reputation as a brilliant comedian is paralleled only , by his dedication to health and nutrition, recently signed a history-making $100 million contract with -the Ohio-based Cernitin America, inc.Tor the OSA marketing rights to his new weight loss product, Dick Gregory’s Slim Safe Ba hamian Diet. It is the largest contract ever inked in the history of the health industry. Gregory vowed to donate millions of dollars in profits to a host of agencies de dicated to improving the quality of life of the un derprivileged and the un informed. With this as a criteria and a mandate, Mr.' Gregory pledged to contribute $1 million to the NAACP, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Rosa Parks Foundation, SCLC, the United Negro College Fund, the Urban League, the Martin' Luther King Center for Nonviolent So cial Change, the Ralph Nader Foundation, Amnes ty International and more to be announced. To augment the agree ment, 12 organizations will be granted $1 million to further their awareness and understanding of the whole realm of nutrition, as espoused by Mr. Gregory. Dr. Alveola among the first recipients Fulton of Fulton’s Fasting Center of Chicago will be another $1 million reci pient. Through the sti pends, researchers will study fasting, hunger, starvation, malnutrition and good nutrition. Sub sequent $1 million grants will be awarded annually by Mr. Gregory. Mr. Gregory, whose in terest and advocacy efforts on behalf of youth are legion, vowed to convert 10 percent of the earnings into an offensive designed to educate young people in America to the horrors of drug addiction, alcohol ism and alcohol addiction, and nicotine and caffeine addiciton. In addition to a multi-media blitz, Mr. Gregory will criss-cross the country lecturing to youth. He will be joined on the circuit by Veronica Ali, wife of former heavy weight champion Muham mad Ali; Jayne Kennedy and former Olympian Lee Evans. Mrs. Ali will be paid $6 million for her advocacy involvement and Mr. Evans will receive $1 million. The details of Ms. Kennedy's contract are be ing ironed out. Other Gregory-inspired projects being launched in conjunction with the sign ing of this historic pact include the creation of a two-block-long health expo sition center and the launching of a cable chan nel devoted exclusively to health concerns. The cable channel will be called Dick Gregory’s Cable Health Network. The comedian turned-activist also re vealed plans to purchase a Caribbean hotel that would be eventually transformed into an exclusive health resort. Dick Gregory’s Slim Safe Bahamian Diet, which recently hit the market, is - a 100 percent natural, concentrated powder that is free of drugs and che micals. It is billed as the , “first fast, safe, natural and nutritional way to lose weight.” This is the first product ever to carry Mr. Gre gory's -name.—It - will bt _ distributed nationwide by individual distributors of Cemitin America, Inc., as well as though the mail order vehicle. Mr. Gregory announced that he has been besieged with requests in the past - including a $300 million offer - to market his formu la but refused. He agreed to this precedent-setting con tract because of the “in tegrity of the company.” Dick Gregory gained famed in the early 1950s as a comedian on the night club circuit. In those days he weighed over 300 pounds. As Mr. Gregory was introduced to_the value of nutrition, he rejected the night club scene because of his aversion to alcoholic beverages. Since this health awakening, Mr. Gregory has gained world wide fame fpr champion ing health, physical fitness and weight loss and for his fasts and cross country runs. Cenitin America, Inc., which is based in Yellow Springs, Ohio, is a sub sidiary of the multi-billion dollar Skonen-Gripen, a holding company which is located in Sweden. The young woman, La Perichole, is wooed by the viceroy Don Andres and in a series of comical and fateful events Don Andres unknowingly has her married to her real love in order to gain her legal entrance to his palace fo/ his own interests La Perichole will be played by Jacquelyn Cul pepper in the February 1, 2 & 3 production. She last appeared with Charlotte towne Players two years ago in “H.M.S. Pinafore." Other voices are needed for lead roles as well as small singing and speaking roles and chorus. John Prine To Perform At Spirit Square Arts Center John Prine, the singer songwriter known as “The American Storyteller,” will perform at 7:30 and 10 p.m. in Spirit Square’s NCNB Performance Place on October 13.
