Leg Green , Continued From Page ISA auctions The.actual auctioning process remains the same with all these different types of auctions but there are differences hi how the merchandise is obtained. Benefit auctions usually involve the organ ization donating goods which they’d like to be auctioned off. Liquida tion sales is the process through which surplus or overstocked mer chandise from hiwlm—f dr stores are auctioned. Similarly, estate sales involve the auctioning of private possessions of an individual, usually occurring when the person is deceased. “Most auctions are coo " signment auctions,” says Green, “involving several dealers who offer ■ • merchandise for auction.” Mini warehouse auctions is die selling of goods that s business person or company has had a lien against. “Anything that can be sold, can be sold through auctions,” Green affirms, "including land, cattle, machinery.” Auctions are often used for selling unique Items such as antiques, glass, novelties and spe cialties. The profession of an auctioneer, to Green, is exciting though be doesn’t hesitate to add that it in volves hard work. Auctioneers must pay attention to such techniques as breath control when he or she is bid-calling. "If your voice doesn’t hold up you’re out of business,” notes Green. Preparation for the auction involves pricing, num bering and placing all the mer chandise, which can be very te dious. Once the auction begins the Job of the clerk becomes more in tense since he or she must record each sale Auctions can run for hours. "Once an auction is over I am beat,” confesses Green. His plan for Us career in auctioning Is to keep Us options open. "It Is a very competitive business,” commented Green, "with auctioneers ail vying for the same sales. Within a 25 mile radius of Charlotte there are a great number of licensed auctioneers and an equally great number of auction facilities.” (Auction Bams, as they are more commonly called.) An auction facility is an established " auctioning house through which the resident sucfloitaer holds weekly auctions.''TBBH’t feel I’m ready to be tied down to a facility yet it’s e goad business,” concludes Green, who currently dose auctioning as a sidelins since he is employed with a company full-time "Upon retire ment it will be an honorable pro HUNGRY? i Read “Who's Who In1 The Kitchen” and find a variety of tasty and ful i filling recipes to grace any table. —os—.. x —d Local College Students To See How Federal System Works More than a dozen students from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Johnson C.
