Sunday, February 24 Lewis Celebrates His Silver Anniversary With Coke Poet Staff Writer Walking into the recep-. . tion area of the Coca-Cola building and' glancing at the showcase on the right, the first picture to take note of is the 8x10 colored portrait of Calvin Lewis. Two months ago, this veteran employee was named “Employee of the Month, ” and was treated to dinner for two, compli ments of Coca-Cola. This distinguished honor, not only adds to his collection of five year recognition plaques he has amassed over the years, but it also serves as a crowning effect in honor of his upcoming 25th year with the com pany. Lewis celebrates his ' silver anniversary with Coca-Cola on February 24. Looking back over the years spent with the com-? j pany, it is surprising that Lewis ever worked for Coca-Cola at all. “I had always said that I would never work for a bottling company/’ asserted Lewis, i “Coca-Cola has been a company to work for. benefits are good and 25 years ago when Lewis first began to work for Coca-Cola he was a truck helper. Only a few years , passed before Lewis had changed positions and be, gun working in full service delivery as a trucker. “I stayed in this position SBsl .> r- ■ • - ■ ■■ Calvin Lewis .. Veteran Employee lor 19 years, mostly deli vering on the souttaside of Charlotte.” But after so many years, Lewis wanted A WORD TO THE WISE? I a change. For the past three years Lewis has been working in sanitizing and installing soda fountain ^machines. -“-Sfiaaditlon to installing the fountain machines I also do maintenance on them, too,” confirmed Lewis. Managing to find a chal lenge in whatever job that he does Lewis admitted that the complexity of how a fountain machine is to be installed is a highly re warding aspect of his job. The same attributes that' he finds most outstanding about Coca-Cola are pro bably the same attributes that has made him one of the company’s outstanding employees. “We try to give our customers our best service, by providing them with the most updated e equipment and properly working machinery,” voiced Lewis. Outside of work, Lewis is the father of three daugh ters. and one son, the hus band of the former Mary Land and a deacon and a member of the Mass Choir at Gethsemane Baptist Church.
