JUNETEENTH
CELEBRATION
Now I know there are
some talented people in
Charlotte who have been
just waiting for their mo
ment to shine. The Nation
al Juneteenth Afro-Ameri
can Cultural Society, which
will hold its gala celebra
tion for Juneteenth in
Charlotte from June 1482,
is looking for tap dancers,
singers, poets, dramatists,
kloggers, orators, and
break dancers. If you’ve
got talent in one of the
areas that was mentioned
or if you have talent in one
of the areas that was not
mentioned, then you need
to contact the Juneteenth
committee at 3924740 or

For just a small preview
of what’s in store, the
committee has tentatively
planned to showcase the
Super Dynamics Harem
bee Singers, Brother F. W; a
Kirkpatrick and will pay a
special tribute to black
men. Another highlight of
the festivities will be the
first annual Fred D. Alex
ander Memorial Award
and Banquet.
The first part of the
celebration will commence
Friday, Jtaw 14, in the
Cherry community at Mor
gan Park, beginning at 6
p.m.

show that Chaiiotteans
won’t forget.
Throughout the evening
Nick and Valerie appeased
a capacity audience with
songs of . old, “Send It,”
as well as with the music of
today, “Outta The World.”
Although there were
many couples in the audi
ence, Valerie Simpson did
not forget the singles Her
performance of “Stay
Free,” which started out as
a rich gospel filled rhy
thm and ended up as an
upbeat, throbbing selec
tion, both thrilled and de
lighted.

Gaye. Having recorded
many tunes for him and
Tami Terrell, the duo
paid homage to the late
Marvin Gaye with Valerie
both singing and playing
piano on tunes like,
“Heaven Must Have Sent

Announcers on the service
will read a wide range of
materials, Including news
from the Charlotte
Observer, National
Geographic, food ads and
the borne of the week. The
service will air approxi
mately SO hours per week,
mainly from 7 a.m. to 11
a.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.,
weekdays. If you know
