The Charlotte Flute Choir which is composed of music instructors, students, nurses, and other profes sionals also fluctuates in the level of music experience df its members. a novice to the instrument. She has been playing since the age of 13. "I was born into a musical family. Both of my older- brothers played an instrument. And in order to survive, I bad to find an instrument I could play,” recalled Mrs. Clark. That first instrument, sur Jacqueline Clark ..Plays far fun . yean. “When I got to junior high, I joined the band. And the music sort of looked at my lips and said that I could [day best would be the clarinet or the flute. I chose the flute.” Through junior high, high school and college, Mrs. Clark has continued to pipe the melodies from the high pitched wind instrument. It requires using a different part of the brain and I like that diversity,” she confirmed. “There are many members of the band who are much more serious musicians than myself. For me playing the flute is fun." As a part of their service to the community, the Charlotte Flute Choir has performed at several functions, including the Alexander Children’s Home, and the convales cent homes. “We try to ex pose music to some people who may never have the opportunity to hear a band,” confirmed Mrs. Clark. In addition to these functions, the Charlotte Flute Choir has performed for weddings, at functions for Outlet Square, as well as concerts at the park during the summer. More recently the Charlotte Flute Choir par ticipated in an Inter national Flute Band Com petition in Bangor, Ireland. The first American band ever invited to the compet ition, the Charlotte Flute Choir won the conductor’s award, the inerpretation award (the delivery of the . music in keeping with the time it was written, etc.) 'and first place in their division (2nd division). “Flute bands are really big in Ireland. And a lot of times you’ll find entire families that play the flute. ” That was the case in the hosehold where Mrs. Carr resided during their weeklong stay. Having been part of the „ Charlotte Flute Choir for two years, Mrs. Clark heartily urges anyone interested to join this merry aggregation of musicians. “It’s fun. There’s a variety of music to play, a variety of people to meet and besides you can always get credit from CPCC,” she counted.
