Prophdt’s Col “The C Mi By J. M. Little Special To The Poet The religious world is now rapidly preparing for the Easter celebration. You are doing this unmind ful of the fact that Easter has nothing in the world to do with the crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. There was a Babylonian goddess called Eastra. Both Easter and Chirstxnas came from die mother of all idolatry; Babylon of old. The cru cifixion of Christ testifies of the total depravity of the natural , man. Man by na ture is totally depraved, (Isa. 1), and hates God, (Rom. 2:30). Under Holy Spirit conviction, (John 16:7-11), as an awakened sinner, the Holy Spirit teaches you your total de pravity. If you have never been under Holy Spirit conviction and learned your total depravity, you are not saved. I don’t care how religious you are, nor what you profess to be. The greatest thing in all this universe is just to know Christ. Do you know Christ? Every boraagain believer can say; “I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BE LIEVED.” I can. Can you? If you can’t, you are not saved. All down through the cen turies Satan has taught his poor, Minded subjects that “THERE IS SOME GOOD IN THE WORST OF MEN." I told the folks at Brevard Chapel recently that the doctrine Is not taught in the Word of God. You’ll never be saved as long as you go on believ ing the Devil’s lie that there is some good in the worst of men. "Then Pi late, therefore, took Jesus, and scourged him,” ( John 19:1). Pilate was governor over Israel. The word “acota-ge,” according to the dirtionary, means a whip or lash. So when Pilate scouraged my Lord, it means be whipped and lashed Him. What? A man whipping and lashing the eternal Son of God? The only Qne who could be a Substitute for all my sins? Yes, Pilate did that. But, it was my sins that whipped and lashed Him, too. This is a testimony that man is totally depraved. Christ was the God-man sent to die for God’s elect. Look at verse 2; "And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe.” The crown of thorns was a mockery. Christ had said He was King and here was the mob making fun of Him putting a crown of thonis on His head. This is the same Head from which fell great drops of blood, Just before, when He was in the! garden of Gethsemane By J. M. Little praying lor His elect. Would anyone dare place a crown of thorns on that Head? That precious Head from which those great drops of blood fell when He ' was in such great agony for His elect? Only totally de praved man, children of the Devil. There you have another testimony of the total depravity of man. And these preachers stand in the pulpit and declare that there is some good in the worst of men! Any preach er who preaches such will one day receive one of the hottest places in Hell! After they put that crown of thorns on that heavenly Head they further mocked Him; “And they said, HaH.T King of the Jews! and they; smote him with their hands.” They made fun of Him after they crowned Him. The word “smote” there means they slapped Him. Can you imagine someone slapping the Face of the Son of God? That’s exactly what the mob did. One of the most disrespect ful things that a person can do to you is slap you. Does that come home to your heart? Has anyone ever slapped you or threatened to. slap you? Some years ago a woman threatened to slap me right there in front of some police officers. I told her to go ahead and slap me. She didn’t. Oh, the depravity of the human heart! But just think; someone slapping our blessed Lord. Doesn’t the thought of that make you wonder why God didn’t open Hell and drop the entire human race in It? Man deserves nothing but the hottest place in Hell! After that Pilate brought forth Christ and said; “Behold the man!” (verse 5). Pilate, too, made fun of the Lord, He had every opportunity to release Christ but be sided with the mob who cried “crucify him.” Which side are you on, my friends? Have you sided with the despised Christ? You will if you are ever to be saved. Any proud sinner can walk the aisle and make a profes sion but yet knows nothing about aiding with the de spised Christ. But before you ever know Him in the forgiveness of all your sins you are going to side with the Lord and forsake all that you have. Or you will never know Him. I realize all this is crazy talk to the religious world. The pro fessing church member today knows absolutely no thing about siding with the despised Christ, preachers included. Our church mem bers are as much like a real Christian as a scarecrow is like a real man. The Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ is miss ing in your testimony. What a tragedy. Our church members have made professions and been accepted into the church having never known what it means to be a lost sinner under Holy Spirit convic tion.
