KentreU Devon Long is one talented gentleman. At four year* of age he captured the State Championship Title in the Little Stars Division of Tiny Stars of America Talent Search recently held in Charlotte at the ftamada Inn. Master Long com peted with over 540 Carolina children from ages six months to five years of age. He received a certificate and a trophy and will now travel to Chicago for the National Competition. HU picture will be sent to modeling agencies and he will be considered for commercials. The son of Fletcher and Cynthia Long of Clover Hitch Dr. in Charlotte, Master Long may soon be seen on the tube sharing hk talent of dancing...watch oot, Michael Jack soot Deborah McKeithan Deborah McKeithan, founder and president of the Charlotte-based Handicapped Organized Women (HOW), will speak at the April 11 meeting of the Charlotte chapter of the National Organization for Wo men. Ms. McKeithan will share person al experiences and experiences of other HOW members. HOW is both a support group and an activist or ganization which is working to help the handicapped through education and legislation. The meeting will be held at the Little Rock AME Zion Church on the corner of 7th and McDowell Streets, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Free day care and parking are available. The church is hairier free. Vokmieer Mediators The Dispute Settlement Program is conducting a recruitment drive for volunteer mediators. An orienta tion session to acquaint prospec tive volunteers with the program RiU-be held on Thursday, April II, at 7 •p.m. in the parlor of Covenant | ^uOurdi, 1000E. More The Dispute Settlement Program, sponsored by the Charlotte-Meek lenburg Community Relations Committee, provides a means for citizens to resolve their controver sies by talking through their dis putes with a trained volunteer me diator rafter than going to court. Mediators need to be good listen er, sensitive to others' needs and able to communicate without being judgmental. The role of the media tor Is to help disputants arrive at a resolution rather than decide for them how it should be resolved. At the orientation session on April II, applications for the volunteer mediator role will be available and individual interviews will be sched uled. ’ Persons interested in being a vo lunteer mediator are invited to attend the orientation session or call Georgia Lewis, dispute settlement coordinator, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee, 336-2424.
