Caro winds Announces FourtfiF^' Of July Activities, Concerts Carowinds theme park has announced special Fourth of July activities and additional Paladium concerts. To celebrate the Fourth ot-Jnlv hnUrtny weekend. Carowinds will be open Fri day, July 5 (the park is normally closed Fridays). Carowinds will operate on extended hours for the ho liday weekend and wtll be open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday, July 4, through Saturday, July 6, The park will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Suri day, July 7. Carowinds will be illu minated by fireworks starting at 10 p.m. on July 4. Park guests will be able to view the fireworks spectacular (co-sponsored by WSOC radio) from their, cars in the Carowinds parking lot after enjoy ing a day at the 77-acre theme park. The general ■public is invited to park in the lot, free of charge, starting at 9 p.m. to view the fireworks display. The WSOC Music Coun try Talent Hunt, which showcases the 20 best •country bands in the Caro linas, takes place at the Carowinds Sound Circus July l through July 4 from 5-8 p.m. Carowinds guests can enjoy the music pro vided by bands compet ing in the talent hunt free of charge. Carowinds will wrap-up the Fourth of July holiday weekend with the appear ance of a Paladium fa vorite, Jimmy Buffett, Saturday, July 6, at 8 p.m and Sunday, July 7, at 7 p.m. Buffett’s most recent -release, “Last Mango In Paris,” Joins previous hit albums, “Riddle in tbs .Sand,” “Changes in Lat itudes, .Changes in Atti tudes,” “Somewhere Over China,” and “Son of a Sailor,” plus a long list of hit singles like “Margari taviUe.” Other big-name concerts Scheduled for the Caro winds Paladium include the Just-announced appear ance of John Cafferty and. The Beaver Brown Band on Saturday, July 30, at 7 p. m. This group is bast known for their soundtrack for the movie Eddto and the Grids-' era which sold over a mill ion copies. Their current hit album, “Tough All Over,” contains the hit sin gle by the same nanfe. The Charlie Daniels Band will kkk up its heels Sunday,'July 31, on the Paladium Mage with a rousing performance at 7 .V Patti LaBeOe, a record - 1 ---——, I Pattie La Belle .Coming to Charlotte mg artist long accustomed to the top of the charts, takes the Paladium stage on Saturday, August 3. La Belle will mix incredibly powerful rock and rhythm and blues with unbeliev able energy for perfor mances at 3 and 8 p.m. On Saturday, August 25, Amy Grant, will make a concert appearance at the Paladium at 4 p.m. Grant’s album, “Age to Age,” is the most successful album in the history of contempo rary Gospel music. Now, with the release of “Un guarded,” her first all-new album for AAM Records, Grant is the subject of glowing reviews by-much of the country's pop musk press. More Paladium concerts will * be announced soon, according to Caro winds Marketing Director Garry Bick'ett. Paladium tickets go- on sale at Carowinds at 9 aun. the morning of each con cert. Paladium tickets may also be purchased at Ticketron outlets in North -pud South Carolina includ ing the new Tickertron out let at Carowinds where park guests may pur chase advance tickets to future Paladium con certs. With Carowinds and Ocean Island located just off 1-77 (exit 7+) to miles south of Charlotte and 12 miles north of Rock Hill, big-name concerts and Fourth of July fun are Just around the coiner.
