What Is Convocation? By Salat Anthony Taylor Special To The Past Leviticus, chapter 2S, verse 7, “These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons." This year marks the 59th Annual Holy Convocation, of the United House of Prayer For All People Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith. The First Holy Convocation for Charlotte, N.C., was held in the month of September 1928, at 324 South Long Street. This was conducted' by the founder of the United House of Prayer, the. late Bishop C.M. “Daddy" Grace. Since that time it has been an annual affair. - The convocation season to doe cf; the greatest celebrations in the United House of Prayer. The cele bration begins in Los Angeles, Ca., in February and moves to Miami, Florida, in March, then continues in July in Buffalo, New York. It then moves South, stopping in twelve major cities. It goes as far as Augusta, Ga. It then returns to Charlotte for the final week. The purpose of the Con vocation is to perpetuate Christianity and the Apostolic Faith. Also it is a week of giving high praise and thanks to the Most High God and the Lord Jesus Christ During this week, services are held nightly' with the most honorable Bishop “Daddy” Mccouough present. There is singing, preaching and praising the Lord in every service. Also during the day the General Council of the Church meet. The General Council consists of State Chairmen and others who are appointed by the Bishop. The purpose of .the General Council is to audit the work of the organiza tion. Also in each state, there is a softball game in honor of the McCollough Scholarship College Fund, funded by Bishop “Daddy" McCollough. ... One of the highlights of " *' ■ % ■. .... i - ■;:; the week-long celebration, is the baptismal service which will be held Sunday morning at it with Bishop W. McCollough presiding. This service is attended by all dressed in white for the wneiging into the holy water for the remission of their sins. out the greater day of this holy week is the Anal day. Also in Newport News, Va., and Savannah there is a Grace McCollough Peace Parade. In Charlotte, there is a special band exhibition held on the grounds with marching bands and bugle corps competing for various awards and plaques with the Honorable Bishop W.
