Lodato Port Staff Writer Since becoming bead of the United House of Prayer For All People in I960, Bishop Walter McCoUougb has brought about gra^fr to the church in new and exciting ways, according to N.C. We were without a bishop but we were never without a leader. He stood out even before Bishop Grace had died.’’ Apostle Gibson stated that Bishop McCollough, a South Carolina native, be came a member of the House of Prayer here in Charlotte at the age of 14. He worked up through the ranks and served as pastor - in the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C., be forebeing promoted to pas-' tor of the mother church in Washington. Town houses and apartments have been developed in various com munities for members and non-members alike, “so low income and under privileged people can af ford to live in nice apart ments. Bishop McCollough be gan a scholarship program to help young people go to college, and started the bait rolling with a $12,000 contribution. He founded a seminary located in Richmond, Va., to upgrade the ministry. He organized the Coali tion of Concerned Citizens, whose primary project is voter registration, encou raging people to exercise their rights and take part in community affairs. He has provided jobs, gotten young people more involved in the church, and given members “the in centive to be somebody.” He has established a pen sion program for minis ters. He has developed a self sufficient transportation fleet. According to Apostle Gibson, the church has also become more formally structured in the past 25 years than it had been pre viorisfy~~ Houses of Prayer are presently established in 26 states and membership numbers around four or five million. The church is in the process of updating its membership Goals are to spread the Gospel and establish churches in every state in the union. Recently designated titles of apostles (minis- | ters) and saints help pro vide additional spiritual strength in the church. “The higher you are in j position, the more humble you have to be,” noted [ Apostle Gibson. "The church has made a 360 degree turn around in improving its spiritual level," he added.
