MARDI GRAS CONTESTANT June Rousseau divides her time between her family, work, and hobbies. Employed with the U.S. Postal Service, Ms. Rousseau Is the mother of two daughters. Maria Chantelle and Malena Violet. She belongs to Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church and volunteers at Myers Park Traditional Media Center, conducting a story hour for kindergartners and first graders. In addition to reading and traveling, Ms. Rousseau enjoys bowling and is a member of the Early Rollers bowling team. She will represent Group IV of the Omega Psl Phi Fraternity as its contestant for Queen of the Mardi Gras dance, which will be held at the Convention Center (formerly Civic Center), Friday, November 8, beginning at 9 p.m Ms. Rousseau graduated from Garinger High School and Bennett College. Fiw Point* Festival The Biddleville-Five Points Com munity Organization will hold its annual Festival-on Saturday, Oc tober 19, in the Five Points Park. Before the Festival begins in the park, there will be a community parade, which will commence at 10 a.m. at the Bitsy Bounty Shop ping Center on Beatties Ford Rd. The parade will lead into the formal opening of the Festival at the main entrance of Five Points Park at ll a.m. .Five Points Park is located on French St. behind Gethsemane A ME Zion Church. Double Oaks Center The Double Oaks-Community Ser vice Center will throw open its doors Friday, October 18, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for October Awareness Week. The public is invited to come visit the variety of educational and human service agencies that ope rate at the center. Double Oaks was closed as an elementary school in 1981, but CMS reopened the building as a center to serve the nearby community. Cen tral Piedmont Community College, the Charlotte Area Fund, Headstart, the Housing Authority and the Parks and Recreation Department are among the organizations that offer classes and services there. The couple will reside in Charlotte High Risk Pregnancies More Common If you thought that high-risk pregnancies were uncommon in this day and age, think again. They are a lot more common than most people believe. A recent study conducted by ob stetricians from Wayne State Uni versity’s School of Medicine dis covered that only slighUy less than 31 percent of all pregnancies in Southeastern Michigan in 1982 could be classified as routine, without any complications. Another 36 percent were classified as routine, with minor complications. The study surveyed the results of 65.437 obstetrical patients delivered in Southeastern Michigan during 1982 and classified each patient by the level of obstetrical risk. Complications were present which required less than one week of additional hospitalization in 27.7 per cent of the patients studied, while 5.8 percent had complications which re quired one or more weeks of ad ditional hospitalization, possibly on multiple occasions.
