Dr. Samuel Proctor, pastor of the
Abyasintan Baptist Church in New
York, will deliver the keynote ad
<h«aa for the Founder’s Day Convo
cation at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oc
tober 31. The program will be held in
the Kenneth R. Williams Audito
rium.
Seven former faculty-staff
members of the university will be
honored as professors emeriti
during the convocation. Dr. George
Hall and Dr. Hazel Naugie will be
recognized and posthumous awards
wiD be presented to the families of
Mr. Jasper Atkina, Mr. Herbert
Clark, Dr. James Dillard, Miss Elva
James and Dr. Joseph Patterson.
Dr. Rachel Diggs WUUiwen. a
member of the darn of 1933, will
receive the Simon Green Atkins
Award as distinguished alumnus for
198M6.
The program win also include the
formal presentation of the latest
installations in the university’s
Sculpture Garden - “Arbor Spirit”
by Roberto Bertoia of New York,
and “Po Tok>” by Tyrone Mitchell,
also of New York. Both sculptors
.will be on hand to discuss their
works. • t

Shaw Alumni Meeting
The alumni chapter of Shaw Uni
versity will ipeet Sunday, November
3, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist
Church-West, 1801 Oaklawn Ave.
Scheduled for the meeting will be
a discussion on the alumni’s par
ticipation in the annual homecoming
and founder’s day program to be
observed the week Of November 18.
The 120tfa Founder’s Day convo
cation will be held in the Raleigh
Memorial Auditorium Friday,
November 22, at 11 a m. At the
banquet, to be held later that
evening, each alumni chapter will
sponsor a “Miss Alumni” contes
tant. The banquet will be held at the
university’s student union
building. '
"Die National Alumni meeting will
begin with a Saturday morning
breakfast.
All former students are urged to
attend the meeting Sunday and to
leave addresses and phone num
bers. Cedric Jones wiD preside over
the local alumni meeting.
