The issue of world peace is some thing that is always with us, it seems, ever since humankind de veloped the power to annihilate itself. At times It merely lurks in the background, as people go about their daily existence; other times, such as the event of the recent Geneva Summit, the issue of world peace ' comes more to the fore. How important is world peace to ; individuals? Is it something they • think much about, or don’t they pay it much attention? ; Post reporter Audrey Lodato asked a sampling of three genera ! tions their thoughts about world ; peace. Here are their responses. ! • EDMOND J. WALKER, retired County worker, resides on Wilmore Drive. "Sure it’s important,” Walker replied. “If there’s no peace, ■ the world would be in an uproar all ! the time. If there’s peace, every ; thing’s on the Q.T.” He added, “I’m tired of hearing about so much hijacking and killing; I’m just sick ofit.” • LEON WHITE of S. Ramsey St. is a 7-Eletfen store manager. “It’s a very 'important ’issue,” White conceded. “There are a thousand reasons why. War is Just no good for humanity, period. Peace is the only way-between countries, fellow man, everybody. Let there be peace. I don’t like to see confusion between ' individuals, much less countries.” jv.."'' These are Tarnlsha's thoughts: “World peace is impor tant because God put us on this land to live together, not fight against one another. I think we’re probably just about at peace now. Sometimes I worry about the country getting into a war. My greatest worry is that everybody would get killed. I have a younger brother who’s five, and I would worry about him." • RENEE ALEXANDER, also a seventh grader, lives on Lakeview Road. “World peace is important to me because it would make for a better tomorrow. Everyone wants power over each other. Everybody wants to be leaders instead of fol lowers, and they fight over it time and time again. This is the reason I think why we can’t have world peace.” • CHRIS OXNER, another seventh grade student, is a resident of N. Harrill St. "With world peace,” said Chris,” "it’s easier for you to live and to have a lot of respect for people. There’s peace now. World leaders need to work harder so we stay peaceful. There’s a lot of killing, though. I don’t think there’s anything I can do to help world peace.” Chris admitted to feeling helpless about it. • MIDORI DAVIDSON of Drift wood Dr. is an eighth grade stu dent. “World peace is important,” Midoro agreed. “It makes it easier to grow up, and to get along with people. You know the next day you’ll be living, instead of worrying the next day you might die, especially with all that’s happening now.” 1 r1” —■ FIND GOOD BARGAINS IN THE CHARLOTTE POST __■ —— I ■■ - ■ -...I- 1 . __ . .
