Kennedy HI, chairman of the' board, president, and chief executive officer of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, received the honorary degree, Doctor of Law*, at North Carolina Central University’s Awards Day exercises at 10 a.m., Friday, April 4. ' Mr. Kennedy was -cited for his continuing efforts to improve the economic and social well-being of his city, state, and nation, and for his leadership in strengthening the economic power of black Americans. Mr. Kennedy is a native of Dur ham, where he attended Pearson Elementary School and Hillside High School. He graduated from 'Palmer Memorial inaHt^e m Sedalia in 1038. He holds the bachelor of science • degree in business administration from Virginia State College; the Master of Business Administration degree from the Uhivefsity of Pennsylvania, where be majored in insurance; and the Master of Busi ness Administration degree from New York University, with a major id finance and investments. He has done further graduate study at •NifU, \ ► Mr. Kennedy is a charter member (UNCF) in a major project ddelgtied ' to Improve member Idrtltutions' governance and managemant. President McLean recently an nounced that Barber-Scotia has received a 135,800 continuation . grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creaky Michigan, making it possible for the institution to participate in the comprehensive activity known as the Integrated Systems Approach to * Improving Management (ISATIM). The project is being administered by the United Negro College Fund, Inc. Activities at Barber-Scotia Col lege will be conducted through June 30, 1886. Grant monlaa will provide technical assistance toward completion of the development of an up-to-date management program in the Integrated Systems Approach to Improving Management.
