Folk musician Jon Singleton will present “Music and Tales From the North Carolina Hills” at Family Day at the Char lotte Library, Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. Singleton will tell moun tain stories, sing traditio nal songs, and demon strate many old time . mountain instruments, including the banjo. Addle, guitar, dulcimer, jaw harp, and mouth bow. He will play the same moun tain tune, “Old Joe Clark,” on each instrument to show ' differences in sound. Members of the audience my be invited to try their hand at making mountain music, too. Singleton has had an in teresting career as a per former. At one time he was a fiddler for the UA Park Service, on a canal boat on the CAO Canal. The April Family Day program is sponsored by Showbiz Pizza Place in way51. The time has been changed from an originally announced evening concert This group, which per formed earlier this spring for both the Beaux Arts Ball and for the Charlotte Jazz Society, will feature both the ' big hand smaller groups - Inrhuting the Jan Improvisation i Clay standards such as “Green Dolphin Street,” “I Can’t Get Started," and “Time After Time,’’ will be mixed with more contemporary works such as “Back Bacon Blues” and “Latin Schizo phrenia.’’ In addition, vocalist Amanda Herman will do a record copy of “All the Things You Are" originally performed by Ella Fitzgerald and the Basie Band.
