Church Neux Briefs Rev. William Lee Honored For 20 Years Exemplary Leadership By Jalyne Strong Pest Staff Writer On Sunday, July 13, with pro grams at 11 a.m., 1:90 and 3 p.m., the members and friends of Silver Mount Baptist Church will pay tribute to Rev. William Lee Jr., their pastor of 20 years of exemplary leadership. The celebration program will include: an 11 a.m. Sermon of Hunks delivered by Rev. Lee; an 1:30 p.m. 20th annual Appreciation Dinner; and at 3 p.m., the annual sermon delivered by Rev. Dap Steger, pastor of Reeder Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Leak, pastor of New St. John Baptist Church, will pre side as master of ceremony for the occasion. •• It will be a full day dedicated to the venerable Rev. Lee, who, throughout his 20 years as pastor of Silver Mount, has proven to be a minister of the highest caliber. His achievements since his becoming pastor of the church in July 1966 underline that he is a man of vision and purpose His earliest growth of the church’s membership *nd the increase of the church’s tunas yielding a high amount of assets for Silver Mount. Rev. Lee also initiated complete renovation of the Silver Mount building in the .early 1970s. And many new mem bership enhancing programs were started under his supervision. 7 Possibly the most effective is the -Youth services; in which he gave to the young people of the church the opportunity to conduct the regular worship period each fifth Sunday, f&jfo; *.;•»: v : < Rev. ' - W ' me son ot Mrs. uertrude H. Lee and the late Rev. William Lee Sr., Rev. Lee began preaching at the age ot six years old. However, his first pastorate position occurred in 1955 when he took the pulpit of St. John Baptist Church, following the death of Rev. Lee Sr., who was the pastor. Rev. Lee Jr. ministered at St. John Baptist for 12 years before being called to Silver Mount, which is presently a 103-year-old church. Twenty years of accomplishments will never be able to be recorded in one news article, but the good deeds realized by Rev. Lee are surely marked indelibly on the hearts and minds of the members of Silver Mount and the many people in the Charlotte commipiity he hu come to beneficently influence You surely do not want to miss the opportunity to share with the mem bers of Silver Mount this Sunday as they pay tribute to their “loving, caring and sharing” pastor on this august day: Rev.
