In an afternoon service, Marilyn
Ann Sowell and Alex Thompson
exchanged wedding vows.
Dr. Dewey Duncan officiated the
service which took place at Second
Calvary Baptist Church.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a white satin gown
designed with a sweetheart neck
line and a basque bodice. The bodice
was appliqued with pearL Alencon
lace and Venice lace around the
neckline. The long, tapered sleeves
had motifs of Alencon lace. The
■ flared skirt was enhanced with a
. pyramid design of matching beaded
■ lace and the attached chapel-length
train was bordered with scalloped
Alencon lace.
For her veil, the bride chose a
waltz veil of white Illusion featur
ing k roiled hem • and a tiara of
matching lace, highlighted with
pearls and pouff in the back.
As the matron of honor, the bride
chose her sister, Brenda Harris. Her
bridesmaids included Barbara
Vaughter, the bride’s sister, Phyllis
Mayfield, Marion Pauling, and
Maxine Sowell, the bride's sister
in-law.
Little Miss Kamilah Gabriel and
Rolanda Gabriel were the flower
girls.
As best man the groom chose his
nephew, Alfred Thompson. Assist
ing him were groomsmen, Charles
Harris, Wallace Pruitt, the bride’s
brother, Andrew Sowell Jr., and
Jerry Nance. Don Harris and
Bryant Harris, the bride’s
nephews, and Tommy Thompson,
the groom’s son, were the Junior
groomsmen.

Reunion Set
The Kirkpatrick family reunion
1 will take place July 25-27.
; The reunion will open with
“Family Night,” Friday, July 25,
> 8:15 p.m., at McDonald's Cafeteria
banquet hall. A cocktail hour will be
. followed by a prime rib dinner,
• music and other entertainment.
Featured on July 26 is a picnic at
Hornet’s Nest Park shelter no. 2 at
noon. Then on Sunday, July 27,
family and friends worship together
at Little Rock AME Zion CTiurch, 401
N. McDowell Street.

The Charlotte Area Literacy
League (The Reading Place), will
hold its first annual garage sale at
the league's office, 1520 South Blvd.,
on Saturday, July 19.
People with saleable Items they
would like to donate to the Literacy
League may drop them off at the
league office Monday through
Friday from 10 a m. to 4 p m.
All contributions sre tax
deductible.
Proceeds from the sale will be
used to buy books and materials for
volunteer tutors to help students who
. pay no cost to read or Improve their
reading skills

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Sowell, the bride is a
graduate of Limestone College. She
is a statistical assistant at Duke
Power.
The son of the late Alex Thompson
Sr. and Mrs. Janie Thompson, the
groom is employed with the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Maintenance
Department as an operations
specialist.
Immediately following the
reception, the couple took a trip to
Mrytle Beach.

Pamela Turner And William Croston Are Joined
The lives of Pamela Clarineze
Turner and William Alexander
Croston III were recently joined in
holy matimony.
Given in marriage by her brother,
Samuel Graddy, the bride wore a
gown of satin and Venice lace .The
bodice featured a dropped basque
waistline, a sheer yoke with a
sweetheart effect, a high jeweled
lace collar and long tapered sleeves.
Appliques of beaded Venice lace
accented the bodice and sleeves. The
softly gathered skirt was designed
with a cathedral train. Motifs of silk
Venice lace were used throughout
the skirt and train. A deep border of
scalloped cut-out lace enhanced the
gown.
For her headpiece, the bride chose
a designer hat with fingertip
illusion. The hat was covered, in
satin and appliqued with matching
beaded lace. A face veil of French
netting completed the hat.
The wedding took place at Ever
green Baptist Church in Palmyra,
New Jersey. The Reverends

Morning Star Named
Chapter Of Year
Morning Star Chapter No. 458 of
Modern Free Accepted Masons of
the World Inc. was recently named
the 1986 Chapter of the Year at the
60th Supreme Grand Council, held in
Canada.
The chapter, which is under the
leadership of Lillie Kirkpatrick,
worthy matron, has a growing mem
bership, is successfully executing a
host of activities and serving man
kind. Some of the beneficiaries of the
chapter’s generosity has been two
families whose homes were burned,
the Salvation Array Homeless
Shelter Fund and Crisis Assistance
Ministry.

the groom’s brothers, John Croston
and Malcolm Croston, Reginald
Harris, Noel Hawkins, Ronald
McCleave, the bride’s brother-in
law, and Michael Sanders.
Master Cory Taylor was the
ringbearer.

cermony were organist, Bryant
Pugh and soloists, Sharon Hender
son, Julia Samuels and Brenda
Walls.
The daughter of Mary Turner
Engram and the late William
Edward Turner, the bride is a
graduate of Livingstone College,
having received a B.S. in mathe
matics. She is employed as an
analyst of programming with Duke
Power.
The groom is the son of Mabel
Croston and the late Alfred Alonzo
Croston. He is a graduate of the
State University of New York in
Binghamton, New York. He earned
a B.S. degree in accounting. He is
presently employed as an account
ant with IBM.
Immediately following the recep
tion which was held at Nero’s
Woodbine Inn, the couple took a
honeymoon trip to Jamaica.
