The retail store has had a tradition of outstanding service for its Charlotte customers. In 1925, Lillian Montaldo opened a store in modest quarters on West Trade Street. It later moved to 220 North Tryon Street. By 1944, Montaldo’s had grown out of its limited space As a result, 222 North Tryon Street was purchased. In 1960, the two structures were raised to accommodate the distinguished French style building which exists on the site today. Louis As bury Jr. was the architect The interior was renowned for its grand marble floors and mantelpieces, its band painted ceilings and display cases, as well as its 18 crystal chandeliers. The adjacent lot of 218 North Tryon Street was acquired in 1956, and in 199$; a building was con structed as Mantaldo’s expanded again. The French country style of the main building’s facade was matched. Wishing to reach out to suburban Charlotte, a branch store was opened at SouthPark five years Difer. Hie bright, new space Uptown and the easy, contemporary design of SouthPark reflect Montaldo’a continued dedication to service and growth in the Charlotte immunity. ' \ t il ! ■ ■ ■ ■ - ■■ .
