They were good years for some and not so good years for others. Above all, though, 'hey were learning years for everyone who attended Second Ward Ifigh School. “Together We Have a Yesterday, Today,' and a Tomorrow." was the fitting theme used by the chair person Mary Martin Jones and her staff to conunem •nte the times, spent at that institution (Second Ward). Recently, the Second Ward Alumni Association sponsored its sixth annual reunion. The Adam’s Mark on McDowell Street served as reunion head quarters. The schedule of events read like a politician’s log during election week. There was something to do all day everyday from until Monday, September 1, at noon. Hospitality rooms were set up on a round the-clnck basis, talent shows were given, the annual dance was held Saturday night and the awards banquet was held Sunday night after the gospel sing-out. Those were just some of the happeti ings that kept the reunion participants jumping. .Among me reunion cele brants were Mr. and Mrs. Luther Thompson, Oren McCullough, Thomesina Johnson. Daisy Mobley; Carrie Montgomery, Elizabeth Ware, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen King, and Mr and Mrs. Odell Price Hie classes that were honored during this ' auspicious occasion were 1996 (Golden Anniversary) ‘ and 1961 (Silver Anniver sary). Special recognition was bestowed upon the class ,nd 1966. Mike Cotton and Melvin Smith are resting on their laurels about now and rightly so. They put together an indoor picnic recently that will be talked about for 44 years. The picnic was held at the Midway Club on Statesville Ave. It capital ized and underscored the “S” in success. The abun dance of food consisting of deviled eggs, ham, chicken, potato salad, hot dogs, baked beans, tuna salad, vegetable trays, and •<n and on and on_was scrumptious. The atmos- > phere outlined by the music of Colonel Abrams - doing “I’m Not Gonna Let You Get The Best of Me.” plus many other contem porary sounds, was vary simulating. And the crowd, just the right amount of folks were seriouslypartying. --- — ' I I This Is Your Paper Use It!!! Caught in the act of having fun were Iris Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, Carolyn Moore, Ruby Cloud, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Johnson, Carolyn Moore, and Peggy Ardrey.
