William M White of Little Rock AME Zion Ctoch, the wedding took place at St. Mary s Chapel. Given in marriage by her uncle, R«V. Louis Jeffries, the bride wore a long white, satin gown. The shirred basque bodice with Sabrina neck line was lavishly appliqued with Alencon lace and highlighted with seed pearls. Long, loops were of matching Alencon lace. The low cut back had a scalloped collar of Alencon lace enhanced with satin buttons. The gathered skirt had an attached chapel train. The entire skirt and train were edged in scalloped Alencon lace. For her veil, the bride wore ooe designed with a floral wreath, pearl sprigs and irridescent droplets. A full pouf, a blusher and a fingertip length scalloped Ulusioo were attached. The bride’s sisters, Paulette Brown and Yolanda Feimster, were chosen as the matron of honor and the maid of honor, respectively.' : - The groom’s sister, Susan Cates, Linda Deas, Cheryl Hudson, and Joan Smith, were the other bridal attendants. The junior bridesmaid was Miss Rasheedah Smith. And little Miss Monica Hartley was the flower girl As best man, the groom chose his brother, Thaddts Cates of Ohio. Frank Brown. Antwon Hall, Conrad McClain and Jimmy McClain were the ushers. Serving as ring bearer was Master Chi Eta Phi I Celebrates 54th Anniversary The Iota Chapter of Chi Eta PM Sorority will celebrate its 54th anniversary Saturday, October 11, at 5:90 p m at the Clinton L. Blake Auditorium, West Charlotte Senior High School The program will include an even ing of fashions by Zachary Hines of Hampton. Virginia. Also, Anna Hood, president of NANBPW, will be presented with the prestigious "Service for Humanity" award. Central University where he received a B.S. degree. After a reception at the Holiday Inn-Coliseum, the couple now resides in San Antonio, Texas. They honeymooned in the Bahama. Links Gather To . Plan And Set Goals The Charlotte Chapter of The Links. Inc. gathered at the Brock Residence Inn an Westpark Drive for its initial meeting for the 1986 87 fiscal year. The membership met in a full day retreat setting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. recently to plan and set goals for the organization’s local and national programs The Links welcomed the op portunity to spend time examining the past involvements of the Links in the local community and planning for a variety of volunteer services r for the future. In addition to volunteer services. The Links, Inc contributes to organizations and sqpports programs which deal with some of the moat significant social problems of our times. The local chapter, under thd lead ership of Link Daisy Spears Stroud, made plans during the retreat to impact on its chosen area of “Services to Youth” by involving all of its program facets in an ongoing project with “Teens in Touch.” “Teens in Touch,” a project of the Charlotte Urban League, was chosen as the focus project of the Charlotte Links. A variety of services and activities have been planned for the Teens ranging from art exhibits to academic tutoring and international festivals. The retreat which was wdl attend ed was applauded as bang ex tremely beneficial and appropriate. The casual, relaxed atmosphere proved to be a great way to start the season. Links enjoyed the fellow ship this opportunity provided after the summer break. The re treat plans which involved planning the day’s activities, including breakfast and lunch, were handled by the program committee which is chaired by Link Eva Shadd. The activities ot all the program facets of the Links will begin after the regular meeting on October 4, at McDonald’s Cafeteria. The entire membership is looking forward to an active and productive year. McLeod 1b “Woman Of Year” x . .Wilmington - Dr. Joanie McLeod, pediatrician and professor of Human Services at UNC-Charlotte, was named the Woman at Die Year for 1985 by the North Carolina Foundation far Alcohol and Drug Studies. She was selected because of her participation and leadersgip on the 1885 Governor’s Task Force on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Among Youth. Dr. McLeod presently • chairs the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Among Children and Youth. She also is founder of Open House, Inc., a substance abuse treatment center in Charlotte.
