Derrick McGowan, Ray Hughes, Scott Wallace. Luther Holder and the boys have finally arrived at the point that Jim Hambacher likes to have his program. After paying their dues, they are not the elite of the Tri-County Conference. West Mecklenburg 24, Shelby Crest 10. EAST GASTON at EAST MECKLENBURG This is a non-conference warm-up for the East Mecklenburg Eagles. The Warriors from East Gaston are not in the same league as the Eagles in more ways than one. East Mecklenburg 15, East Gaston 7. HUNTER HUSS at SOUTH MECKLENBURG South Mecklenburg is having a rare down year. Coach Lin wood Ferguson just does not have the horses. The Huskies are headed for a season ending showdown with the Ashbrook Green Wave that could decide one of the playoff spots in the Southwestern 4A Conference. The Sabres are out of the running. Hunter Huss 21, South Mecklenburg 7. MYERS PARK at INDEPENDENCE The Mustangs of Myers Park are having a bad year. The Patriots have been thurst into the spoiler role because of a tough early Injury to quarterback Troy Meeks. Independence 14, Myers Park 13. WEST CHARLOTTE at HARDING Last year this game was for first place and the Rams came from behind with 2:10 left on the clock to beat the Lions at West Charlotte. This year, the Rams will not be playoff bound. But they will be spoilers. Harding 24, West Charlotte 14. NORTH MECKLENBURG at OLYMPIC The Vikings are tough this year, but so are the Trojans. ASHBROOK GREEN WAVE - The Waves keep flowing and flowing. The sea looks like the playoffs. They could be the best team in North Carolina. 2. EAST MECKLENBURG EAGLES - The Eagles are flying high now. What a difference a day makes. After a lackluster performance against Richmond County, they put together a string of victories that included a 7-6 squeaker at Olympic, and a 28-21 upset of the Rams at Harding. Also included was a 17-0 shutout of Indepen dence at Independence. When the Eagles come marching' home again. Hurrah! Hurrah! 3. OLYMPIC TROJANS- It has been a long time since I had a chance to rank my alma mater this high, but the Trojans have the horses in Vinson Perry, Robert Grissom, Llnnell Davis, Vernon Alsbrook and Company. This could be their first trip to the playoffs since 1870 when they finished second in the state. That was the great team with Randy Rhino, Danny Rhino, and Bobby Cook. They lost to Raleigh Broughton. 4. HUNTER HUBS HUSKIES - The Huskies up from a down year have blended Avery Floyd (brother of Dirk and Darryl) and Kevin Armstrong Into a unit that Is rivaling crosstown Gastonia AshbroOk for the publicity In the Southwestern 4A Conference. 8.
