Providence Day, 9-1, won the tiUe by default when Harrells Academy, winner of the Eastern title, refused to play the Sfjhargers in the final, Charlotte Latin had five players named to the team. Their only defeat was at the hands of Providence Day. The Charlotte Observer Tip Off Tournament has East Gaston, Independence, South Mecklenburg, and West Charlotte pitted against other local teams. That tournament will be held at Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday, November 26, Friday, November 28, and Saturday, November 29. East Mecklenburg will participate in the Christmas Tournament at Catawba College December 26-31. North Mecklenburg will play at the Celriver Tourna ment at Winthrop College December 27, 29, and 30. Myers Park is in the Wilmington Holiday Tournament with Laney, Hoggard, and New Hanover, December 30-31. Olympic and Harding at at Hunter Huss in the Christmas Doubleheader with Ashbrook and Hunter Huss. Crest is in the Star Tournament in Kings Mountain January 2-3. uannger is in the Carolina Classic December 19-20. The conference tournaments will begin on February 23 and end by the 27. The sectionals are March 1,3,4,5, and 7 The regionals are March 12-14. The state tournament will be March 21 in Chapel Hill at the Dean Smith Student Activities Center. All JV women games are 3:45. Garteger - The Garinger Wild cats of Bruce Kreutnr were 5-7 in the conference and 204 overall last year. The Wildcats lost in the sectionals last year, 6445, to eventual state champion West Charlotte. Point guard J.R. Mcllwain, All Conference farwardDarran Stinson and center Juan Mason, «-7, give the Wildcats a lot of beef. Add 6-1 Nate Sanders and 6-2 Russell Mitchell to the 6-6 Stinaon and 6-7 Mason and die Wildcats have the tallest lineup in the city and one of the tallest in the state. “We think we have a pretty balanced lineup,” said Kreutser. “We believe that we will be better than last year.** The Wildcat junior varsity won the mythical city championship with an 11-1 conference record. Indrprartmirr - The Indepen dence Patriots of David Christen bury always manage to be at the tap of the conference wben the year ends. They were 9-3 in the league and 214 overall last year in a rebuilding year. Top returnees are 6-1, ISO pound guard Rodney Farringtaa who -averaged-13.8. paints per gaum last year and 6-3 guard Nate Baskins who averaged 10.0 per game last year. Hunter Hm - The Huskies of -Hunter Hues are another one of those teams that manage to be in the neonate. The Huskies were 10-2 in the conference and 20-7 overall last year. They return 0-2 Dwayne Brice who averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds per game last year, 0-2, 210 Lamar Lewis who averaged 3 points and 4 rebounds per game last year, and 0-5 sophomore Rodney Floyd and 0-2 Junior Asberry Love. Six-four, 190 pound Maurice Flowers will be a guard forward. He win be assisted by 64, 215 center Tony Horton, 64 forward Aatotae Teasiey, 84 forward Anthony Truesdale, and 6-4 center John Vaatis. Teasiey averaged 11 potato par game last year. Flowers averaged 10. Color the Eagles YELLOW for - "LUKEWARM." 6. Mvers Park - The Myers Park Mustangs were 3-0 and 10-14 last year. Mike Connelly has point guard Larry Crowder, shooting guard J.T. Jant, wing Terry Masaey, forward Kevin Wilson, and forward Johh , Campbell. “We will start slowly bat aa our reboundiiM improves we could get better,” said Connelly. His arsenal includes Massey who averaged 30 points and seven re bounds per game last year. Every one is looking at him. Color the Mustangs GREEN for “NEEDS SOME TIME TO WARM UP.” 7. Ash break - The Ashfarook Green Wave wore 7-5 and 13-13 last year, but are not expected to be as good this year. Returning are Rodney Patterson with 10 points per game and Steve Alexander with B per game. The Green Wave will have to struggle to maintain last year’s record.
