Does Love Conquer All? : Dear Carol*. ‘ Do you believe that love con quer* all? If'*. . w, „.r . "In love at last" laL *" 1 'Dear In Love at last, !■ love alone cannot conquer all. ;But love + faith ♦ hope + commit ment. ♦ hard work + change + growth may conquer all. Carole Dear Carole, ' Our two children are close in age. They are only 19 months apart. They are extremely jealous of each other. We thought by now that the girls would outgrow some of their jealousy but at their ages of 11 and 12 they seem worse than ever. We don't know whether to let them be together or keep them •part. What should we do? Warn Our Parents s' Carole's Comer By Carol* Ricks Dear Worn Out Parents, Although your daughters are close in age, remember they are two separate people. Treat them as individuals. If possible, give each daughter her own room. Al low each daughter to decorate her room according to her own choic es. Teach your daughters to re spect the privacy of each other’s rooms and belongings. Encourage separate friendships and social activities. The fewer material items and relationships the girls share, the bettor. Fenced or strained sharing niay only in crease the tension between the girls. You and yoiir husband should plan to alternate sharing time with each daughter. On the other hand, do plan a few activi ties which your daughter* can share. Let them work together and play together occasionally but not often. It make taka years before they learn to accept each other. But respect for their differences, but you, may reduce'the jealousy. , r-V 't ■ . •• ITT •' * Carole j 1 * • Editor's Note: Carole B. Ricks, A.C. ' I *9.r *• ' ’ / THE STRENGTH OF ATREWCA Volunteer Week Raleigh - Governor Jim Martin has proclaimed April 26 • May 2, 1987 as "National Volunteer Week in North Carolina." Hie Governor is urging all citizens to take this op portunity to recognize volunteer contributions to North Carolina, and extend appreciation to those who have given of themselves. "Volunteers really do make a difference in North Carolina," Governor Martin stated in his proclamation. "Virtually every sin gle area of health care or commu nity service has been touched and improved upon by the hand of a volunteer. “Seventy percent of our North Carolina citizens volunteer at qne time or another to help those in their communities who need assis tance," the Governor added. "Our is a state where 'neighbor helping neighbor' is more than a catch phrase; to us it is a way of life." Human Resources Secretary David T. Flaherty pointed out that volunteerism is the key to many of the goals of Governor Martin's ad ministration. "Volunteers are a vital part of what makes North Carolina such a great state," Secretary Flaherty said. "Both Governor Martin and I believe that citizen involvement is essential in providing effective services to the people in our state who need them. While there are limits to what government can do, there seems to be no limit what volunteers can do." Will Lindiey, director of DHR'a Office of Volunteer Services char acterizes the work of volunteers as "critical'’ in meeting the needs of the poor, the sick and the hungry. Lindsey called volunteers "North Carolina's greatest resource, giv ing of their time to make their community and their state better places in which to live. 7 \-J~t RE IN THE AIR: Ana ine charlotte Post Is Bringing Them To You Every Week. Each member of participating black churches were asked to do nate $1 to help send a young black student to collage. As a result of that fiindraising drive, John Crawford, director of Youth Services announced that over $5,000 were raised from this appeal. ' - "This was a special effort to get the Black community involved in supporting the Housing authority Scholarship Fund on an annual bias. Wa certainly believe that "charity begins at home and spreads abroad; the support of the churches has verified this. Wa appreciate, not only the churches, but the individuals and business es who participated in the fiind raising drive at this time.” Printed below is a listing of the churches, businesses and indi viduals who are "giving youth a chance”: i Walls Memorial AME Zion Church, Chappell Memorial Bap tist Church, First Mt.
