The following year, Mrs. Cana dy asked Michigan State Profes sor Ruth Hamilton to lead the Del ta delegation to the United Nations Non-Governmental Organisa tions' Forum in Nairobi, Kenya, and to discuss the global perspec tives of single female heads of household. "The response of the many women attending the workshop in Nairobi was overwhelming," Mrs. Taylor recalled, "and many partic ipants requested that Delta con vene a global conference on the is sue." Mrs. Canady issued a call for the Nassau conference last fall. Nassau was selected as a con ference site, Mrs. Taylor said, be cause the Caribbean offers an amalgam of all the races found in North and South America, Africa and Asia and the Nassau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has had a vi able Summit II program for the past five years. "The Nassau Chapter trains fe male heads of households in salea ble skills," Mrs. Taylor adds, entrepreneurship and office skills -with the cooperation of the gov ernment and local schools and universities which provide the training. Governmental and com munity agencies provide day care,' she relates. The program also has a health care component for mothers and children. "We were also glad to accept the invitation of the chapter," Mrs. Taylor said, "because the Nassau community has invited the confe rees to look into how the local pro gram works, to visit schools, homes and agencies. We won't just stay at the beach hotels," she emphasized. "The problem of single heads of households are global," Mrs. Cana dy declared. "This concern is worldwide and not racial. It has no geographic boundaries. Delta Sigma Theta hopes to help women from around the world network and discover solutions to the prob lems of underemployment, low pay, day care that women share throughout the world." Mrs. Taylor said that American women of all races are expected to attend. Women from Guyana, Brazil, Canada and a contingent of American Indian women from four reservations, and from Ken ya, Zimbabwe, Ghana in Africa have said they would attend. The cost of registration for the week long conference is $200 per person and registration is open to all in terested persons.
