With James Cuthbertaon u Congratulations to Myers Park's Terry Massey on being named to the Convene AD America Team. Terry was first team AD Metropoli tan for the Charlotte Post. The Bucs won three games in cluding 8-4 over Providence Day to win the CISAA Softball Champi onship. Beating regular season winner Charlotte Latin, 5-3, advanced them to the finals. In the first of the games to decide the championship Ashely O'Neil went three for four with four RBI's to lead Country Day to an 11-3 win. The Broadmoor Tigers won the 10 and under regular season in the Broadmoor League and came in second at a postseason invitational tournament sponsored by McCrorey YMCA. Rodney Reid was the team's outstanding offensive player and Vernon Holsey was the out standing defensive player. Robert Newman was the coach. Newman said that the team really surprised him adding that he really stressed defense because when you have defense you automat ically have offense and that he was happy that they were good on both fronts. Others on the team were Jay Phifer, Lamont Easterling, Danny Garda, Derrick Sowell, Cory Holsey, Garrett Oakden, Cliff Hayden and Dormeco Newman. Bobby Mcllwain also helped coach the champions of the 12 team Broadmoor League. The North Carolina High School Athletic Assodation has dedded to discuss moving the state championship football gams to a neutral site and it is a good idea. Th* facilities at Seventy First High School were not good at all. As a matter of fact, attendance for the West Charlotte-Harding game was more than attendance for the state championship game. That semi-final at Memorial Stadium drew almost 20,000. There were oolv 10,000 at the state championship game. ■ y Peking was atrorious. It took two hours to get out of the gnm« utilizing policemen on a highway that was not designed for • transit The state's 4A Conference voted to support it, Mecklenburg county schools started the push for neutral sites after the facility at Lloyd Auman Field at Seventy First High School were criticized as inadequate. Thirteen of the 14 members of the Tri County and Southwestern 4A Conference as well as a majority of the Mid-South 4A supported y the change, TWgama has also gotten so big nthat t* only stadiums th*? could hoet it are Groves at Wake Forest, Kenan at Chapel Hill, Wah ' lace Wade at Duke, Aggie Field at North Carolina AAT, Charlotte Me morial Stadium, or Carter-Finley at North Carolina Stats. Being that a 20,000 figure would be high for a state playoff cham pionship game, I think it would be better to hold it in a central facility StteMOTMnTst^im^ NOrtH Carolina AAT’*15.000 field or Char The game would be dwarfed in North Carolina's unknown Wake's Grove, Duke's Wallace Wade or Bute's Carter-Finley. But any of the sites mentioned would be an improvement It is Hm« to take it off the high school campuses where it can make some mon ey for the state's schools. In other news, the 4A schools voted to reduce the h—h»tba11 field back top 32.1 think the 64 is a good idea because more teams set to play and I hope that is defeated.
