Younger Sister Wants More Responsibility
Dear Carol*,
Whenever my parents go out,
they leave my older deter In
charge. My deter is 16, and I am
16. Since I am much more respon
sible than ah* is, I don't need to
have her "in charge’' of me. When
she ia "in charge"' she does anyth
ing she want* and I cant do anyth
ing at all. She talks forever on the
phone and she has her frienda all
over the place.
As far a* I'm concerned, this plan
is unfair. When I try to talk to my
parents they tell me that it’a best
for my risfesr to run things because
she's the oldest I think that Just be
cause she's the oldeet doesn’t make

Dear Young and Able,
It ia important for adults to listen
to the concerns of young people. If
you feel you cannot talk to your
parents, write them a letter and
mail it to them. Suggest a day, time
and place for them to meet with
you. Tell them your feelings. After
you have had the meeting ask your
parents if they will meet separately
with your sister to hear her feel
ings. As a total family, review the
family rules. Discuss a fair way to
share the use of the phone. Let
your parents know that you feel
ready to handle more responsibili
ty than you have been given.
