Barbara Davis, a retired Char lotte-Mecklenburg Schools edu cator, received the Volunteer Service Award for her leader ship role as chairperson of the League's Education Initiative Task Force. The 27-member Task Force conducted the first phase of the five-year education Initiative by researching the ' status of black students in Char lotte-Mecklenburg's Public Schools and recommending to the League's Board how to pro ceed with improving their stat us. Danis' research phase was a 6-month project. yxsg Jerome "Magic" Johnson is a member of the Teens 'N Touch Advisory Committee and has be come a favorite to many of the students. "Magic", as he la known, has developed personal relationships with many of them, often serving as mentor and confidante to males in volved In the program.
