TV-42's Outreach Looks At Egyptian Subjects

dents have become fascinated
with the mystique of ancient
Egypt. In Januaiy, OUTREACH,
one of the WTVTs public affairs
programs, presents a four-part
series that explores the African
origins of ancient Egypt. Based
on a series of lectures presented
at the Afro-American Cultural
Center In Charlotte, the four-
part OUTREACH series explores
the African contributions to the
development of Egyptian phi
losophy, religion, culture, tech
nology, sociology and art. Each
program features a nationally-
recognized, Afro-American
scholar who takes viewers on a
fascinating and provocative
Journey through Africa, to Egypt
and back to contemporary time.
On Sunday, January 8, the sec
ond program features Dr. John
Henrik Clarke as he talks about
the African Influences that
shaped and transformed Egypt
Into one of the greatest nations
of antiquity. Dr. Clarke Is a for
mer professor of African history
at Hunter College In New York.
On Sunday, January 15, Dr.
Charles Cooper, a widely recog
nized lecturer on Old Testament
studies and ancient black bibli
cal history, discusses the posi
tion of black people In the bibli
cal world. The final program In
the series, airing Sunday, Janu
ary 29, features Dr. Ivan Van
Sertlma, a professor at Rutgers
University, as he reviews the
many linkages between Africa,
Egypt and contemporary life.
