The global birthrates of television sets and babies are now equal - 250,000 of each are produced dally. Dally! The sheer numbers can produce a feeling of awe in even the most devout skeptic. Television is, almost unargua- bly, the world's most influential medium. Whether we are friend or foe, we must recognize that we live in an age molded and mi micked by the small screen. What, then, could be more ap propriate than to have televi sion present TELEVISION, a re flective eight-part series examining the industry's first 50 years? This winter, the camera peers into the camera to look at the growth, glamour and power of TV. The series premieres at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, and con tinues on consecutive Mondays with repeats at 10 p.m. Thurs days on PBS Channel 58. To see the first outlines of tele vision's remarkable self- portrait, get close to your set and watch "Live Pictures" at 8 p.m. on Monday, January 25, a review of live coverage of sports and spectacular events. It's tele vision at its best, viewing televi sion at its best. HORSES Tale On Channel 58 For thousands of years, the horse has been a symbol of power, freedom, and beauty. HORSED traces man's epic part nership with the animal, as well as the horse's crucial role in the development of civilizations throughout history.
