By Lora Vuiderhall
Poat Staff Writer
Three and a half years ago Rev.
and Mrs. Abraham Lockhart
opened Cornerstone Christian
GUIs, Inc.
The Idea to open the gift store
came to Rev. L^khart as a reve
lation from God. "The Lord
spoke to me and let me know
there was a need within the
community to spread the word
of God. There was a great need
for Christian literature," said
Rev. Lockhart.
Mrs. Lockhart recalls the day
her husband told her about his
revelation. "I had been working
with the school system for about
20 years when he asked me to
quit my Job to start the gift store.
I remember that August morn
ing when my slster-ln-law. Lot
tie L. Garrett, and I came to open
the store. It really gave me a
good feeling." Mrs. Lockhart said
some people come by just be
cause they need someone to talk
to and she enjoys helping oth
ers.
After her four mile dally walk,
she opens the store promptly at
9:30 each morning. Cornerstone
Is open Monday thru Friday,
9:30-5:30, and Saturday 9:30-
4:00. It Is located at 5703 Old
Concord Road.
Rev. Lockhart previously
worked at Atlantic Envelope,
where he was the only black ad
juster for 13 years. He Is cur
rently the pastor at Morning
Star Baptist Church. He says he
has enjoyed being In business
and he Is glad he accepted the
Lords will to open the store.
"Fear can paralyze a person
when attempting new ventures.
But. If God tells you to do some
thing don't look at your ability
but at God's ability."
Cornerstone Christian Gifts
offers church supplies, sheet
music, albums and tapes, Bibles
and study guides, Christian
books and cards. They also
have a variety of church and
wedding program covers, order
choir robes and have a sp>eclal
section called "Preachers Cor
ner" with a large variety of pas
toral supplies. Bibles are still
the number one selling book.
They have a convenient lay-a-
way plan and they accept visa
and mastercard.
Rev. and Mrs. Lockhart recent
ly renewed their vows after cele
brating 25 years of marriage.
They have one daughter, Kathy
Cloud.
They attribute all of their suc
cess to the mercifulness of
Christ. "We walk by faith and
not by sight." said Rev. Lockhart.
They want to thank the commu
nity and churches for support
ing them and they want to con
tinue serving the need for
Christian bool^ and gifts. "It's
not what we can get but what we
can give In serving God."
