Lyceum Concert Of The Year Thursday, October 27, 1988 - THE CHARLOTTE POST - Page 13A Orangeburg, SC - The first Ly ceum Concert of the year at South Carolina State College will be held Monday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium. The pro gram will feature young artists Barrington Coleman, tenor, and Stacey Robinson, baritone, with Dr. Ronald High, assistant pro fessor of music, at the piano. Robinson, a native of Hodges, has performed with the Univer sity of South Carolina Concert choir in Seoul, Korea; the More house College Glee Club; and Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In addi- tlpn, he has appeared In The Cosby Show as a member of the Hillman College Singers. He is a scholarship pupil of Interna- ttonally-acclalmed bass- baritone Simon Estes at the JulUlard School of Music in New York. Coleman, a native of Chicago, is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts at the Jullliard School of Music where he Is a I Stacey Robinson pupil of Simon Estes. He has been soloist with the Chicago symphony Orchestra Chorus, the London Symphony Orches tra, the Baltimore Concert Ope ra and other opera companies. Recently, he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival in England In the British premiere of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Barrington Coleman He has been a national seml- finallst in the Metropolitan Ope ra auditions and has participat ed in a Master Class at the Juil- liard School for Leontyne Price. The recital program will in clude works by Purcell, Handel, Duparc, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Negro spirituals. There is ho admission. Poetry Contest Deadline A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in World of Poetry's Free Poetry Contest, open to all poets. There are 200 prizes in all, totaling over $16,000.
