Black Stars Will Co-Host Black I’ie Music Awards Program

1989 "Soul Train Music Awards,"
according to co-executive pro
ducer Don Cornelius.
The two-hour nationally syn
dicated television special moves
Into the Los Angeles Shrine Au
ditorium on Wednesday, April
13, and will be produced live be
fore a black tie audience. The
special will air on syndicated
stations nationwide. Viewers

The "Soul lYaln Music Awards"
annually celebrates the best re
corded performances In Rhythm
A Ulues, Urban Contemporary,
Gospel, .Jazz and rap music; the
lop new artist and best music
video are also honored, along
with a special Heritage Award
presented annually to a pioneer
memlrer of the R&B/Urban Con
temporary music community.

year," said Cornelius. "She has

serves a great deal of credit for
the show's continuing succ'ess."
Of Rashad's selection as a co
host Cornelius said, "Ahmad
Rashad has become one of the
most likable and articulate per
sonalities on television, and we
feel his overall charm and some
what Jocular style will comple
ment Iroth Dionne and our pro
gram per fer^tly."
Rashad, a former National
Football League standout, ap
pears regularly as a commenta
tor on NDC Sports' "NFL Life"
and NHC's ".Sports world." Rash
ad also hosts sjreclal reports for
"Entertalnnient Tonight." He will;
Ire making his debut as a host of
a major music .special.

most dynamic, highly acclaimed
singers, will Join Warwick and
Rashad as co-host. "Patti's in

will light the stage all night -
