Thureday,Mareh 16,1989 - THECHARLOTTCPOST - FageSB l^ion Singers of Saint Augtutine College Concert At Christ Episcopal The Vision Singers of Saint Au gustine's College (Raleigh, North Carolina) will appear In concert at Christ's Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, Friday, March 17, 7:30 p.m. A chamber ensemble of 11 stu dent vocalists, the Singers will perform a program of African- American sacred music. Includ ing concert works of black com posers, arranged spirituals, con gregational hymns and songs, contemporary gospel, and tradi tional music from South Africa. Performing en route on a 10-day tour of eight southeastern and mldwestern cities, the Vision Singers are under the direction of Dr. William T. Dargan, asso ciate professor and head of the Music Department, who Is an ethnomuslcologlst and music critic. The Director of Choral Ac tivities Dr. Sevealyn V. Smith, will also perfofm with the ensemble. Representing a cross-section of academic Interests, members of the Vision Singers are pursu ing degrees In several majors. In cluding communications, psy chology and business administration as well as music. Four of 11 current members are honor students: Alisa Evans, a freshman voice major from Tar- boro, NC, earned a 3.5 average; sophomore voice major Christo pher London of Washington, DC, attained a 3.7 average: and both freshman Jujuan Mitchell from Kinston, NC, and sophomore An gela Polite from Charleston, SC, achieved 4.0 grade point averag es during the fall of 1988.
