LIFESTYLES Section B Page One Mobley's Carpet Cleaning Service By LORAVANDERHAIX liliestylM Editor Cleaning carpet may be one of the least enjoyable tasks when It comes to the upkeep of a home or business but Eddie Mobley and his employees do It with ease. Moblqr, the owner of Mobley Professional Carpet Cleaning Service, has been In the carpet cleaning business for the past 24 years. "1 started when 1 was In high school. 1 was driving a school bus and working at a carpet cleaning company after school," said Mobley. After leaving his hometown of Chester, S.C., he moved to Charlotte In 1970. He worked In the carpet cleaning Industry before opening his own compa ny In 1979. "1 worked hard to learn the carpet cleaning business," he said. In order to get the best equip ment, Mobley went to Canada to purchase a truck-mount van, which has the equipment built in. Today, he has three vans equipped with large hoses that will reach up to 42 stories and smaller hoses that can be com fortably used In a home or more confined areas. He has gone from being a one man operation to having seven full-time and six part-time em ployees. Mobley's brother, Phil lip works for hhn and he has 18 years of experience. "My son, Eddie Jr., has been working with me every since he was 8-years-old. All of my em ployees are well trained and there Is always an experienced person on each crew," said Mo bley. The services he provides In cludes the cleaning of carpet, upholstery, floors and draper ies— no matter what the size. And he's on call for emergency service 24 hours a day. "One of the largest jobs we've had was cleaning the carpet at Ivey's at Southpark. We worked seven nights for six hours each night. It took about 42 hours to clean all of their carpet which came to about 100,000 square feet" he added. Mobley, 38, prides himself on the quality of service he pro vides. "All of my em ployees are well trained and there is always an experienced person on the crew. If Eddie Mobley "We move all of the furniture and place It back, most compa nies won't do this. We also deo dorize the carpet at no extra chajpge." "Most times when we clean a person's carpet at their home, we usually don't have to come back but once a year or every eight months, depending on the traffic In the home," he ex plained. "Once we clean It we explain what to do If they spill something. We train our cus tomers." The Moblely's company, which Is located at 1603 ^uth Boule vard, also sells and la}rs carpet. 'We have countless samples to choose fi-om. Two of the more popular colors right now are wine and maroon," he added. Puroflrst, another company owned by Mobley, repairs water and fire damage and they have done work for toe new coliseum. "The sprinkler system at the new coliseum went off when It shouldn't have and It took us about eight hours to clean It up," he recalls. Mobley said Its Important for toe customer to know If they're getting quality service. He said, "Other companies make mis takes because they do not have the proper equipment or super vision to do a good job." Mobley oflers the following Ups for recognizing when the carpet has been Improperiy cleaned. -It should not take any more than three and a half hours for toe carpet to dry. -As soon as toe work Is done you should be able to walk on It. Davina Michelle Hayes was voted Chariotte Poet Senior of the Tear and she was the re cipient of the first Charlotte Post scholarship. Darina is the daughter of David and Joyce Higes. Mary Grace Haynes was voted Chariotte Post Mother of the year. The Sock Hop and Recognition Day was held at PDY Caterers. Hot doge and hamburgers were enjoyed by all. Tables were set up by co-sponsors WWMQ- Magic 96, WJ2^-Channel 46 and the YWCA. Metrollna Mills was also a co-sponsor and they provided complimentary socks to all who at tended.
