Corso Is Named Assistant
Basketball Coach For ’Cats
John Corso has been named
an assistant basketball coach
at Davidson college, joining his
former high school coach and
two of his high school team
mates.
Davidson coach Bob McKlIlop
was Corso's coach at Holy Trini
ty High School on Long Island.
At Holy Trinity two of his team
mates were Don Hogan and Matt
Doherty, who earlier were
named assistant coaches for the
Wildcats.
Corso was a standout as a
prep player for McKillop at Holy
trinity High School in Hlcksville,
NY, where he graduated in 1978.
While at Holy Trinity, Corso led
the team to three straight New
York State Championships.
Holy Trinity's records during
.these three years were (20-4),
(21-3) and (19-4). He was Catho
lic High School Association
Honorable Mention All-
American. first-team all state
and Holy Trinity's MVP his jun
ior and senior years.
Corso started his collegiate
career at the University of Flori
da in 1978 and transferred to
Davidson after that year. He
eventually graduated from Adel-
phi in 1983 and completed his
MAat Adelphi in 1986.
After receiving his MA, corso
became the Head Coach at the
freshman and J.V. level at Holy
Trinity. Then, he went to work
for McKillop at Long Island
Lutheran where he was an as
sistant coach and assistant
programs director at the largest
basketball camp on Long Is
land. He turned down the
chance to replace McKillop at
Long Island Lutheran in order to
come to Davidson.
"Bob helped me as a player,
guided me through college, and
helped me with my master's, "
Corso said. 'Working at a Divi
sion I school and working with
Bob is like a dream."
Corso will be in charge of the
recruitment of underclass re
cruits, the organization and ad
ministration of Davidson's sum
mer camps, academic liaison,
floor coaching duties, and
scouting.
"John's addition further
strengthens the chemistry of
our staff," McKillop said. "He's a
talented teacher and very capa
ble administrator. By turning
down the opportunity to suc
ceed me at Long Island Luthe
ran High School to join us here
at Davidson. John has demon
strated a unique sense of loyalty
and commitment."
Corso is single and is interest
ed in outdoor activities such as
running. He is also a fine cook.
