Surprise
By MnXICENT UNK

What turned out to be a hoax,
evolved Into a Joyous ocassion
as family and friends gathered
at First Congregational United
Church of Christ In Kings Moun
tain to give honor to Lemuel

The wool was pulled over Boul
ware's eyes by her daughter Oliv
ia, who told her that she had left
a coat at church.
"As I entered the church
ground and seen all those cars, I
Immediately thought that It was
a funeral," said Boulware.
This was the most shocking
day of Boulware's life as she en
tered a room of smiling faces
waiting to greet her.
"1 never had a birthday party
before. My children and friends
presented me with everything
under the sun," she said.

money tree by the Gastonia
Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, household Items from

hell," said Boulware. I never was
a person to be led by the nose. 1
have always been outspoken,"

even managed to send them
through college.

children to make up their own
minds.
With the problems of drugs and
guns In the school system, Boul
ware feels that It Is up to the In
dividual. "You can't make
changes unless they want to be
made. You have to want to be
somebody," said Boulware.

different as compared to the
children In her day. "Back then
